McCain Created Blackberry; Can't Use One

by: Colorado Pols

Somebody better put another one of John McCain's policy advisors back on the shelf. As The Associated Press reports:

Move over, Al Gore. You may lay claim to the Internet, but John McCain helped create the BlackBerry.

At least that's the contention of a top McCain policy adviser, Douglas Holtz-Eakin. Waving his BlackBerry personal digital assistant and citing McCain's work as a senator, he told reporters today, "You're looking at the miracle that John McCain helped create."[Pols emphasis]

McCain has acknowledged that he doesn't know how to use a computer and can't send e-mail, one of the BlackBerry's prime functions.

Holtz-Eakin's argument is similar to one advanced by Gore, the Democratic presidential nominee in 2000. Gore once boasted about "taking the initiative to create the Internet" through technological and educational policies. He later was mocked for claiming to have invented the Internet, although he never made such a claim.

Wow. McCain created the Blackberry? This could be one of those seminal campaign moments where the candidate goes from respected to mocked, bringing up - again - stories about how McCain admits to not even knowing how to use a computer.

McCain is pretty old, so maybe the advisor meant that he invented the actual blackberry - you know, the fruit.

My friends
There you have it, the McCain Miracle.

If this is true, then we have him to blame for the ever growing problem of Blackberry addiction.

All hail the great Senator McCain, who has bestowed upon the world the miracle of technology! (hey, I know why you Republicans attack Obama this way now: it's fun!)

How McCain invented the Blackberry:
1) Served Republican leadership during an era when they controlled the White House, the Congress, or both.

2) Destroyed the economy and educational infrastructure, with the assistance of an anti-public and anti-science administration.

3) Created Canada as a better place for business and innovation.

4) Watched as they invented the Blackberry in Canada.

Does McSame even know the Blackberry comes from a Canadian company?
Blackberry, invented, marketed and popularized by Research In Motion ( http://www.rim.com/ ), which is based in Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA.

That's right the same Canada that's one of our leading foreign sources of oil (significantly bigger than Venezuela; but it's hard to use an ally that isn't run by a demagogue as a talking point for "Drill Here, Drill Now").

Oops, TakeBackTheHouse got there first!
And makes a point well worth advancing!

Lie #54 and #55 The Blackberry
DNC Updates "Count the Lies" Counter: #54

Washington, DC - The Democratic National Committee today updated the Count the Lies counter after the Washington Post's Fact Checker blog gave four Pinocchios to the McCain campaign's claims on energy. While John McCain has defended his pick of Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate by saying she "knows more about energy than probably anyone in the United States of America," the Washington Post notes that Palin "has been having a lot of trouble getting her basic energy statistics straight."

This latest article is at least the 54th fact check to debunk a McCain campaign lie since he promised to run a respectful campaign in February. Visit www.democrats.org/CountTheLies to see the updated Count the Lies counter.

Washington Post Fact Checker Blog: "The Woman Touted by John McCain as the Most Knowledgeable Person in America on Energy Issues has been Having a Lot of Trouble Getting Her Basic Energy Statistics Straight." "The woman touted by John McCain as the most knowledgeable person in America on energy issues has been having a lot of trouble getting her basic energy statistics straight. Last week, Sarah Palin told Charlie Gibson of ABC News that her state, Alaska, produced 'nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy.' Yesterday, she told a campaign rally in Golden, Colorado, that she had been responsible for overseeing 'nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of oil and gas.' Both claims are way off." Thank God for Fox news
I had forgotten John McCain was a POW. The Republicans had a guy on yesterday who, when asked about McCain's technological inability, said with a straight face "When Barack Obama was a young man, John McCain was being beaten daily."
That's the answer for everything, folks. Doesn't know how many homes he has? Well, for 5 1/2 years, he only had one home.
Economy? Well, for 5 1/2 years he had no money.
Healthcare? The Viet Cong had a terrible HMO.
Don't forget he was a POW, lest you be reminded by Fox News, the Republican Party, or a random stranger on the street.

McCain and Stevens, two peas?
so John and Ted's similarities go beyond their committee chairmanships?  They both headed the Senate committee with the most influence over telecom and internet regulations, yet they both admittedly know nothing about computers?  That's the kind of crack competence I want in a White House, no doubt.

Give Ted Stevens his due
I'll take any chance to bash him but his statement about tubes vs a dump truck was actually a very good example.

It's cause they didn't listen to the whole thing
And it's also because he was putting it in terms that were more comfortable to an old fart like him. But they did show a decent understanding.

Also in that interview
This is in order with no edits (translation provided)

"Now, there's no magic solution and I don't think it's at this moment imperative to write down exactly what the plan has to be" Holtz-Eakin said.

We don't have a clue what to do, because our typical response to economic issues, deregulation, caused the problem.

"But there should be an understanding that when you walk out of the Congress with a piece of legislation in the next administration, those boxes are checked and those things are effectively accomplished."

According to the McCain campaign, those checkboxes include "an effective safety and soundness regulator for every financial institution," "better consumer protections," "improvements in corporate governance" and appropriate solutions to "system stability issues."

Please point to any piece of legislation, McCain championed in his 26 years in Washington that addresses ANY of these issues?  I'll help you out--after Enron he proposed additional protections for worker pensions that would place them above executive golden parachutes.  A good idea, but pretty meager after 26 years in Washington.  In addition, McCain is such a "leader" this sensible idea went nowhere, probably because he didn't put energy behind passing it.

When asked what exactly makes McCain more qualified to address these problems than Obama, Holtz-Eakin pointed to McCain's chairmanship of the Senate Commerce Committee. (Cue the flap about Holtz-Eakin brandishing his Blackberry phone to illustrate McCain's record of technological innovation.)

The McCain campaign will lie about anything.

Now McCain's taking credit
for 'overseeing' the economy over the past few years.  We'll see how that works for him.

From Daily Kos:

The point is, I was chairman of the commerce committee. Every part of America's economy, I oversighted. I have a long record, certainly far more extensive of being involved in our economy than Senator Obama does.

...to say nothing of the last few days, I'm not sure I would take claim for the economy.

And the fact that he does so despite the history shows what an idiot he is.

oh gawd
the CST Committee does just about nothing on the American economy.  Has about as much influence there as the Select Committee on Aging.  One thing McCain did do as CST chair is hold a lot of hearings about climate change, not that you'd know it now, since he's suddenly forgotten his once staunch support for climate solutions.  But managing the economy?  hahaha, no.

Blackberry?
McCain's old enough to have invented the raspberry.

This is the crux
From Obama's speach at mines

So let's be clear: what we've seen the last few days is nothing less than the final verdict on an economic philosophy that has completely failed. And I am running for President of the United States because the dreams of the American people must not be endangered any more. It's time to put an end to a broken system in Washington that is breaking the American economy. It's time for change that makes a real difference in your lives.

If you want to understand the difference between how Senator McCain and I would govern as President, you can start by taking a look at how we've responded to this crisis. Because Senator McCain's approach was the same as the Bush Administration's: support ideological policies that made the crisis more likely; do nothing as the crisis hits; and then scramble as the whole thing collapses. My approach has been to try to prevent this turmoil.

In February of 2006, I introduced legislation to stop mortgage transactions that promoted fraud, risk or abuse. A year later, before the crisis hit, I warned Secretary Paulson and Chairman Bernanke about the risks of mounting foreclosures and urged them to bring together all the stakeholders to find solutions to the subprime mortgage meltdown. Senator McCain did nothing.

Last September, I stood up at NASDAQ and said it's time to realize that we are in this together - that there is no dividing line between Wall Street and Main Street - and warned of a growing loss of trust in our capital markets. Months later, Senator McCain told a newspaper that he'd love to give them a solution to the mortgage crisis, "but" - he said - "I don't know one."

In January, I outlined a plan to help revive our faltering economy, which formed the basis for a bipartisan stimulus package that passed the Congress. Senator McCain used the crisis as an excuse to push a so-called stimulus plan that offered another huge and permanent corporate tax cut, including $4 billion for the big oil companies, but no immediate help for workers.

This March, in the wake of the Bear Stearns bailout, I called for a new, 21st century regulatory framework to restore accountability, transparency, and trust in our financial markets. Just a few weeks earlier, Senator McCain made it clear where he stands: "I'm always for less regulation," he said, and referred to himself as "fundamentally a deregulator."

This is what happens when you confuse the free market with a free license to let special interests take whatever they can get, however they can get it. This is what happens when you see seven years of incomes falling for the average worker while Wall Street is booming, and declare - as Senator McCain did earlier this year - that we've made great progress economically under George Bush. That is how you can reach the conclusion - as late as yesterday - that the fundamentals of the economy are strong.

Obama has been aggressive on the economy: McCain is a pandering liar.

Obama should just keep slugging away on the economy...
its showing lots of daylight, and he's winning on this. Keep going, keep going...

" And there are no Christian terrorists."
