Candidates in CD-6 "Debate"

by: Colorado Pols

As the Rocky Mountain News reports:

Businessman Wil Armstrong, Secretary of State Mike Coffman, state Sen. Ted Harvey and state Sen. Steve Ward agreed on not raising taxes, not making a hasty exit from Iraq and not using government subsidies for corn-based ethanol. And they voiced their admiration for Tom Tancredo, the congressman they hope to succeed.

But during the second half of the taping - not for the TV show but for the Web site of Caldara's Independence Institute - one major split occurred during a discussion on energy policy...

..."We are currently subsidizing a failed national energy policy," Ward said. "I disagree. This is something the government can work to solve."

Harvey said what sets him apart is his background in environmental public policy, an area that would make him the best choice to counter what he described as "radical environmentalists."

Armstrong, chief executive officer of a software development and consulting firm, tried to distinguish himself from the others by casting himself as the only candidate who was not a "career politician."

That drew rebuttals from all three of his opponents, citing their experience as businessmen. Coffman and Ward also cited their experience as Marines who served in Iraq.

The two said their military service had helped shape their views on what ought to be done in Iraq.

It's interesting that none of the candidates tried very hard to separate themselves from the other. In a race in which Secretary of State Mike Coffman is the favorite, you'd think the other three candidates - particularly Ward and Harvey - would be trying harder to highlight their differences. Because if all four candidates share the same views, Coffman's name ID and money mean that he is getting elected easily.

I know who lost
Will "My Daddy is Bill Armstrong" Armstrong may actually be the dumber of the two Wills. How old is this guy 40 something and he has never held a real job.  His claim to be a businessman is a bad joke as all he has ever done is live off his Daddy's name and money.

Steve Ward could make this race very close. Not much money but a good resume and an engaging manner.

I see that
Ward Coffman has dropped his own enlistment standards...

Ward will not make this race close
He has no name id, is a liberal Republican running in a conservative district, has no money for commercials or to get his message out, has a rookie cmpaign manager and is one of the most arrogant people I've ever come in contact with.

If I were a betting man I'd say the smart money is on Coffman.

Plus he has the worst sock-puppet ever

If Ward joined others in voicing admiration for Tancredo
That's certainly not he's been heard to say in casual settings.

Armstrong
should have started as a county commissioner or some other postition that is lower on the  totem pole. He has no experience and does not know the issues. His message also doen't resonate with voters. I've always liked Mike and think this is his race.

Bill Armstrong turned Colorado Blue; Will will never do
Bill Armstrong's religious fanaticism has helped destroy the GOP in Colorado.

That John Andrews is supporting Will Armstrong shows what a disaster the young Armstrong would be as a candidate and a member of Congress.

Did anyone ask Armstrong and Harvey about their mortgage banking careers and how they would bail out their industries?

Odd comment
While I am not a fan, Bill Armstrong defeated an incumbent United States Senator and could have stayed in the Senate as long as he wanted to stay there. He hand picked Wayne Allard and Hank Brown and they both went on to the US Senate.  Armstrong has brought a lot of victories to the Colorado GOP.

Armstrong is also strong enough to show Bob Schaffer the door if the scandals keep coming.

signatures
Does anyone know what the record is for number of signatures turned in for a congressional district in Colorado?

I've heard Coffman is turning in quite a few.

I know Shafroth is looking to blow out the existing record
But no idea what it is.

Coffman
Just turned in 3500 signatures.

I agree with Coloradopols
With the other candidates speaking in platitudes and not distinguishing themselves, it will be hard for them to gain any ground on Coffman. Lack of money eliminates Harvey and Ward from being a realistic threat. Armstrong has money but no message and is a weak candidate.

I wonder
If Wil is just trying to lay ground work for running for something else.  We'll need a candidate for Secretary of State and State Treasurer

[ Parent ]
I hear you guys may need a Senate candidate...

I give kudos to the 6th CD field
For not resorting to the gutter politics that have plauged the GOP in primaries over the last few cycles.

All four are good men, that being said my money is with Coffman.

Solid point, michael
The four Rs in the 6th CD have conducted themselves with honor and dignity. The same is true of the trio of Ds in the 2nd, though obviously some of their zanier advocates are beyond their control.

243 Volunteers supporting Wil Armstrong for US Congress
Wil Armstrong campaigns is about the number one concerns of the citizens of cd-6 the economy. Wil is about providing a different approach in fixing the environment in Washington DC. Wil has the support of average citizens, veterans, educators, businesses, etc in cd-6. Wil's campaign is not about jumping from job to job to build a resume. Wil had dealt with real world issues as a businessman and has provided jobs to the economy in cd-6. Wil's campaign is not about him, it's about not being afraid to face the tough challenges ahead, it's about change and the future not only for cd-6, but for the great state of colorado. In addition, Wil's campaign has re-enegize and broaden the Republican Party base at the grassroots level and the fruits of that labor will be announce this week. Wil Armstrong is the best choice for cd-6.
