Perlmutter Endorses Whitcomb

by: Colorado Pols

Thu Nov 29, 2007 at 11:22:49 AM MST

Republican Sen. Shawn Mitchell is expected to be a top target for Democrats in 2008, and his Democratic opponent may have been all but finalized. Democrat Joe Whitcomb has been openly running for the seat for months, and recently he received the endorsement of Congressman Ed Perlmutter.

While Perlmutter doesn't represent much of the senate district in question, his backing should go a long way in preventing a serious primary challenge for Whitcomb.

We have a candidate who can win
Four years ago Shawn Mitchell won only because the Democrats nominated a candidate who did not work.

Joe Whitcomb will work.

Joe Whitcomb will win.

Shawn Mitchell is a career politician who has never held a real job. Joe Whitcomb is a decorated former Army Ranger who served in combat.  The choice is clear.

I can vouch for his work ethic...
I am helping the campaign with a bit of call-time staffing, and I am just now folding up the laptop at the end of a few hours of his mid-afternoon dialing.

He is getting his message out on the phones, and when it comes to knocking on doors this guy is the machine you would expect from an Army Ranger.

Good on the issues and good on the trail; it's a nice combination.

Wishing Joe best of luck...
but I don't think it is fair to say Curt Williams didn't work hard.  I can testify to his tireless energy and enthusiasm. Fair criticism though to say he was inexperienced, not terribly organized and way underfunded in '04.

The local organizations have grown tremendously since then.  Joe is building on that and I'm optimistic for the race.

Curt should do very well in his race for Regent if he applies those lessons learned.

Mitchell's gonna be the Lew Entz of '08

Whitcomb is great
I have met Joe Whitcomb and he is a great individual who displays a strong sense of integrity and character.

I agree
I met him at some function a bit ago and he is really a great guy.  Kudos and best of luck man.

Pleased and Honored
It was an honor to receive Ed Perlmutter's endorsement. Congressman Perlmutter led the Democrats to control of the State Senate in 2000.  Congressman Perlmutter shows by example that Democrats can win in districts, that on paper appear to favor Republicans, by focusing on the issues that matter to the average person.

As a veteran I am also pleased that on his trip to Iraq, Congressman Perlmutter plans on asking tough questions and demanding answers.  Every veteran I have spoken with shares my appreciation of his leadership on the difficult issues faced by our soldiers both during and after their service.

Bring 'em on!
We're behind you Joe!

While you cannot speak for Shawn Mitchell, and since we already know where his priorities are, what do you believe are the most important issues facing Coloradans and how will you be a leader for your Senate District and take those issues on?

What kind of leader will I be?
Thanks for the question.

First, I will lead by listening and I will lead with compassion.  My allegience will be to the people of Colorado, specifically the people of Senate District 23, not to a particular ideology or dogma.

This means I will work to assure their children have access to great public schools from the time they start pre-school until they earn their graduate degree if that's the path they choose.  It means I will work to make sure that when they are sick or injured they have access to safe, affordable and high quality health care that focuses on wellness and prevention.  And it means I will be an advocate for the environment so their children and grandchildren can enjoy the beautiful landscape I've fallen in love with and that millions from all over the country come to experience.

While in the legislature I will collaborate with the other members in the Senate to make sure Coloradoans can continue to be proud of their amazing landscape and unmatched quality of life.  I will work my heart out to make sure Colorado keeps moving forward.

That's how I'll lead and that's my vision for Colorado.

Joe Whitcomb
Candidate SD23
