Old Tom Tancredo is in the news. Again.

Rep. Tom Tancredo of Littleton shares the limelight in a video clip racking up page views on youtube.com. In just one day, nearly 50,000 people had watched the seven-minute piece called "CPAC 2007: The Unauthorized Documentary."
The video shows Max Blumenthal of The Nation weaving through crowds and asking provocative questions of several people at last week's Conservative Political Action Committee conference in Washington, D.C.
After positing that the "conservative movement is in crisis,'' Blumenthal says of the presidential candidates, "only Tom Tancredo can boast of a solid conservative voting record. Whether Tancredo's brand of conservativism helps his party is another issue.''
The clip shows a part of Republican Tancredo's speech where he says the U.S. is becoming a "linguistic and cultural tower of Babel,'' and then refers to Miami as a Third World Country.
Blumenthal interviews Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform and an oft-Tancredo critic, who says "I would argue that if the face of the Republican party is Tancredo, it loses over the next 25 years.''
Blumenthal questions Tancredo supporters, asking at one point about preserving "white culture.'' Several men yell and tell him to leave, one saying "you want to get some racist chant for Tancredo… . It's not going to happen … . It's not about race.''
Blumenthal asks one Tancredo supporters why he's covering his "confederate flag lapel.'' The man says "because you have a video camera in my face.''

Tancredo is an embarrassment

As a liberal resident of unincorporated Littleton (Jeffco), I feel pretty well un-represented at all levels of government. Being represented by Tancredo, especially, confirms my life-long concern that America frequently flirts with a fundamentally fascist ideology (we are the "leaders of the free-world" -i.e, the "master race", we have the right to forceably make the world over in our own image, etc., etc.). Isn't it time that the Dems in these Republican strong-holds stand up, organize, and take back our government on every level? I'll give my heart and soul to that enterprise!

Big deal

I have Confederate Battle Flags on my leather jacket, vest, stickers on my motorcycles, three tattoos, flags hanging in my garage, etc.
A big non issue.
If all people have to worry about is silly shit like this, the world must be in fantastic shape.

If it's such a non-issue,

why is it such a big issue to you? That you have them, flaunt them (the flags)?

I won't play amateur psychologist here, but there is some deep seated abnormality to embrace this symbolism so intensely.

The non issue is

concerning trying to make TT look bad because of this.
I fly the battle flags as an anti-establisnment rebbellion type of thing.
In short....it pisses people off.........
Same goes for my Hells Angels Nazi t-shirt. I have it hanging in my garage but it isn't hidden. Fuck anyone that doesn't like it.

Now I have a buddy from southern Illinois that I see every year in Sturgis. He is a rough one.
He wears a t-shirt everywhere he goes. On the front in big letters is the following:
Wanted: One n*&&er to be used as a belt drive. Must be flexible and willing to travel. (The belt drive is for his Harley.)

I don't know how he has avoided more fights than he has wearing that.

The span of the Republican party

A friend of mine always states that the Republican party is really the "big tent" party. After reading Gecko's latest post, he may be right. Any party that can fit Lauren (in the middle), Doctor D (evangelical), and Gecko (racist) all under one roof - truely has a wide ideological reach. Although, I imagine all three are lilly white (the common thread).

Gecko, your latest post makes me quite sad. How can someone be that offensive, insensitive to minorities? My kids are taught about bullies in school. You are a grown man who obviously still enjoys being the playground bully.

Because Gecko's own words say it all. I'm sure there has been a drop or two of actual logic somewhere in all of his posts, but those are needles I have yet to find in the hay-stack of his rantings.

By the way, sometimes something labeled "political correctness" is right, sometimes it's wrong, but labeling it "political correctness" does nothing to tell us which the particular sample in question happens to be. Argument by epiteth, to co-opt the phrase, is the last resort of the incompetent. Why not make actual, reasonable arguments, if you feel so strongly? I will read them with the utmost respect and open-mindedness.
