O'Donnell Loses National Support

by: Colorado Pols

Tue Oct 31, 2006 at 15:52:54 PM MST

That might be the fat lady you hear. From The Associated Press:

Signaling retreat, House Republicans are scaling back television advertising in three highly contested races, including Republican Rick O'Donnell's campaign in Colorado's 7th Congressional District.

The race pits O'Donnell against Democrat Ed Perlmutter to fill the seat vacated by Republican Bob Beauprez, who resigned to run for governor.

Perlmutter has led comfortably in recent polls, and Republican strategists apparently concluded the money ticketed for that race could be better spent trying to help Rep. Marilyn Musgrave, who is seeking re-election in the 4th Congressional District in Greeley.

It's time to fold up the tent
Maybe a year or so of down time to recharge the batteries after this drubbing by Ed would help.  Maybe on the US-Mexico border, searching for your soul, inner peace, and an illegal or two.  Heard it does wonders for the kids.

Wish we could rate comments on here...
because this cracked me up. Thanks.

cd 4 in greeley
give me a break, there is a lot more to the 4th CD than Greeley.  Ever heard of Fort Collins ??

I think this is the reason for the
Greeley reference:

President Bush is tentatively scheduled to make an appearance in Greeley this Saturday to campaign for both Musgrave and Beauprez.

(from the same AP story)

You have to wonder...
It must be at LEAST a little disheartening for the Republicans to have to pour so much money into Musgrave's campaign term after term. She should be condsidered failure by the GOP based on the mere fact she has never really had a clear, commanding victory in a Republican district. Clearly, even many Republicans feel that they are not being represented in Washington. Being a former Republican, I certainly feel that way.

It's like watching an old movie...
Not Really A Suprise
They probably would have given up sooner had the race not recieved so much publicity and special fundraising early on.

Ed ran a great campaign, but O'Donnell was also just a terrible candidate.  Like the big line says, he was spending so much time trying to recover from his own mistakes and explain his own actions, that there was no way he was going to step and take a lead in a district that was already predicted to be tough for him.

I'm going to say Perlmutter by 9 points.  Some will call that a high margin, but almost everybody around here thought he was neck and neck with Peggy Lamm before he handily defeated her in the primary.

Amen.
I spent most of my time the last few months with this campaign and I am proud to be part of it and impressed with the enthusiasm and efficiency of Ed's campaign.

Wrong
That's funny, they have spent over $900k on O'Donnell in the last couple of weeks and I just saw an ad on TV not 15 minutes ago.
