Beauprez Tags Rowland

We speculated last week that Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez might choose Mesa County Commissioner Janet Rowland to be his running mate, and that's exactly who he chose in an announcement this morning.

Rowland is an interesting choice and an obvious nod to the conservative wing of the Republican Party (Rowland headlined anti-Referendum C ads that ran last fall on the Western Slope). The downside to the Rowland choice is that she isn't exactly a household name; if Beauprez is going to be in Washington D.C. the entire month of September, as we keep hearing, someone with a more recognizable name might have been useful to keep interest in the campaign while he's gone.

Unsound
I understand Beauprez's motivation to appeal to the Western Slope, but I can't see the logic in his decision to tap Rowland. First and foremost, Beauprez absolutely needs a more recognizable running mate if he is planning on disappearing to D.C. for all of September.  I acknowledge the fact that voters, by and large, don’t give a damn about the bottom half of a gubernatorial ticket, but a more recognizable name (i.e. Jeff Crank) would lead to a better-received ground game.  Also, Beauprez has burned a lot of bridges with the Business Community and with moderate Republicans, and Rowland seems to exacerbate the situation, rather than alleviate it.  A vocal opponent of Ref C, and rather conservative individual, is not what the BB camp needs as November approaches.

Bring me in Coach.
Let me get this straight.  BothWaysBob is going back to D.C. for a month, in the last 60 day stretch of the campaign, and he will leave his off-the-bench running mate who has no name recognition to campaign in his place?  Not sure who she is, where she is from, or where she stands on the issues but I cannot forsee that as being a good thing this late in the game.  If the republican camp was hoping for a blessing in diguise they have put their faith in hail mary during the most important game of the decade.

4 and 60, and BothWaysBob leaves the game. Who is caoching this disaster?

huh?!?
The whole point of a Lt.Gov is to be the Governor when the Governor is absent or leaves office.  What the hell kind of leadership experience will a one-term county commissioner have as an acting governor? This is almost insulting...

... and a one-term County Commissioner ...
... whose only claim to "fame" was that she opposed Referendum C? Does Both Ways have a death wish for his campaign?

At this rate I won't be suprised to hear that after a long visit with Washington D.C. LOBBYISTS in September, he goes for a return visit to his Russian "businessmen" friends in October.

megadittos
all i can say is megadittos to the above.

Not enough to counter Ref. A
I don't think anything is enough to counter Beauprez's support of Ref. A and recent comment in Steamboat Springs telling the West Slope to "get used to the idea" of the Front Range taking more West Slope water.

And Rowland had better be one he** of a politician if she's going to be the front person for the Beauprez campaign through September.

Bad Choice
Looks like "Both Ways Bob" has decided to throw in the towel early in this election with his selection of Janet "Bestiality" Rowland as his running mate.  Rowland has been the subject of a recall effort herself in Mesa County and anyone who wittnessed her bestiality rant on Colorado State of Mind knows what a loon she is.  I guess Republicans need to start focusing on the 2010 race.

really?
Can you please elaborate on that? Or provide links? Thanks.

[ Parent ]
Elaboration
The Daily Sentinel, I believe in June, reported on a recall effort directed at Janet Rowland by a Palisade business man and his associates because of her efforts to shut his business down at its location.  The recall effort was because Rowland opposed his business location while a business of a similar nature was located in the same area. As a County Commissioner, Rowland voted in opposition to pro-business County Commissioner Craig Mies' vote. She also made quite a stir with her vote to overrule her own county staff's decision that a question mark on a sign is not obscene.  In an attack on our freedom of speech she said that a sign saying, "Bass Lake can kiss my ?", is obscene!  Yep, in Rowland's world, a question mark is obscene.
The other part about her bestiality rant was in reference to her appearance on "Colorado State of Mind" where she said that HB 1344 (?) would lead to legal protection for those wanting to engage in bestiality.  And she had to say it several times, like she was trying to convince herself of her own twisted logic.  What a loon she be.

What did HB 1344 (?) address???
Just curious...

Referendum I
This is the domestic partnership referendum.  Tim Gill is gonna have to fund an education group to warn the state about Janet Rowland!

[ Parent ]
jeez
I can imagine Gill is, right now, calling PBS to get a copy of that tape.

Beauprez on Water
Phoenix, do you have a link to anywhere that comment appears?  I've been looking for it for a week because I really want to blog on that.  No luck so far.  I've seen it in a diary on Squarestate, but I'd like to have a source in the MSM.

Needed a conservative
Bob alienated the conservative base, so he needs one.  If she is conservative, then great.  But thats the only positive I see in this.

[ Parent ]
Well,
she claims to be a conservative. Opposed Ref C and D. But how do we KNOW without a voting record? She's been in office less then one term and is clearly untested.  Can someone out there check er contributions to federal and state candidates? That would certainly tell a lot.

Here's the quote...
From the Steamboat Pilot & Today, Aug. 3, 2006:

"The only path we have given ourselves is to get (agricultural) water," Beauprez told a small crowd [...] citing growing Front Range water needs and limited resources in the state.

water and energy
GREAT article and quotes by BB, finally discussing the truly important issues.

We clearly need incentives for natural gas development, because it isnt as though they are drilling as rapidly as possible already. wow.

and do we have water rights for the water he wants to store? would love to see an actual plan.

To whom much is given much is expected.

Reactionary Bob
Again Bob Beauprez is reacting to the Democrats instead of taking the lead. This was obviously an attempt to counter the Barb O'Brien pick by Ritter, by having a running mate that has experience with children issues.

I said a long time back that he should have picked Senator Ron Teck. Teck brings the west slope votes and is pro-life. He is considered more moderate on some fiscal issues, but that's because he was elected to county government; sound familiar?

The Republicans need to take control of their own messaging instead of reacting to the Democrats and allowing them to define their candidate.

teck yea
A pick like Sen. Teck could have pushed me over to voting for BB.  What the LG choice shows is BB telling sensible Republicans to go away, which they will in record numbers.

Dumb Bob
"Beauprez is going to be in Washington D.C. the entire month of September".

Dumb. Stupid.

On or about October 8th, voters will receive their absentee ballots. On or about October 9th, they will be done voting.

Not all the voters of course. Just 25-30% of them.

Elections no longer occur on single day. They are spaced out over one month. To win, you have to capture votes during that entire time. Spending the month preceding the election out of state is idiotic.

"No way Bob", not "Both Ways".

Are you suggesting...
Bob is stupid for doing what he was elected to do and you know...vote. Would he then be smart for to disregard his job and stay home and campain?

[ Parent ]
ya,
I think that's what he's suggesting.

[ Parent ]
BothWays
Dems are going to keep an eye on every single vote he makes during Sept.  However, they will also watch the votes he misses if/when he decides to fly back to Colorado (at taxpayer expense) to campaign.  Either way, BothWaysBob is going to be scrutinized while his running mate goes through freshman orientation.

Beauprez dumber than we thought....
BWB? What are you doing?!? You are dumber than we thought. Looks like I will be casting my vote for a pro-life Democrat for Governor as stated earlier.

and doesn't go both ways.

Go Rowland
I think she is a great choice.  My vote: Rowland/Beauprez.

I hope they don't screw it up.

Swapping the ticket
Are you suggesting that Rowland take the reins and make Bob her LG running mate?

that "ONE CAR FUNERALS" are hard to screrw up.  Then again, never be amazed at what stupid people in large groups can do.

fringe
Looks like everyone was right about it being Norton, or Dennis.  Then you guys go criticizing Rowland's credentials.  I'm sure you did the same when John Salazar ran for congress.  Or Mark Udall for that matter.

Meanwhile, not one single cite to the insane accusation made above.

Ritter ate monkey meat (and killed someone) while in Zambia but you never talk about that...

yep
Beauprez COULDN'T pick Dennis BECAUSE of the Holtzman issue.  And he COULDN'T pick Norton BECAUSE of the Owens issue, too.  Either way, he's toast.

[ Parent ]
Do Your Homework
Both The Daily Sentinel and The Grand Junction Free Press ran reports about the sign controversy.  Search their sites if you want to read them.  You can find out about Rowland's PBS rant at...  westernequality.org/news050606.htm  .... where church folk discuss her PBS performance or maybe even at the Colorado State of Mind site.  If you need more, you will have to give the effort to locate it yourself.

Are You Ready For Dis?
I wouldn't be surprised to some commercials containing clips of the beastiality rant run by some political education group (such as Clear Peak Colorado) between now and Election Day.
There's no way the Ritter/O'Brien campaign, or the independent education groups supporting the Dems, can pass up the opportunity to have some fun with this.

[ Parent ]
Wingnuts
should stick to the polygamy slippery slope argument, at least it has some merit.  Beasts can't consent to marriage, which rules them out as potential suiters.  I don't know if Rowland said it, but if she did, it was dumb dumb dumb.

[ Parent ]
Not the point
Speculations are just that.  But the fact that she is running put's her credentials under the heat lamp, especially if she wants to be in the executive office.  As for citing information,  most of the above is obviously common knowledge by now. And to attack Ritter for going on a missionary trip to Africa during the 80's is pretty lame.

"Suddenly, it may be cool to be American again" - William J. Kole

[ Parent ]
Monkey meat?
Are we going to see a "Swift Boat" group of Peace Corps veterans claiming that Ritter in the '80s was a primate-flesh-eating murderer? Gimme a break.

Meanwhile, BWB is so desperate that he accuses Ritter of being "pro-choice" merely because Ritter has the basic human decency to at least leave open the possibility of allowing abortion in cases where the fetus has catastrophic, irretrievably fatal defects such as NO BRAIN STEM? Hey BWB you nincompoop, I hope and pray that nobody YOU know ever has to make the agonizing decision whether to give birth or terminate pregnancy where the fetus is doomed to be either stillborn or to live no more than a few hours or days. Shame on you.

Nobody can live without a brain stem. Or at least so I thought until some of the things BWB has been doing and saying lately.

[ Parent ]
wow
Wow, what an unbiased bunch of folks to criticize Janet.  If that's the best you got then I'll wait for your supposed commercial of her 'rant' to believe it.

Meanwhile, can't wait to see how well the all Denver, all pro-choice team does on the Western Slope.

Dream on, Moonraker
Calling Ritter "pro-choice" because he leaves open the possibility of allowing abortion in cases where a fetus has severe, guaranteed-fatal abnormalities like NO BRAIN STEM is ludicrous. How dumb do you think the voters are, anyway?

Can we look forward to more of the same from the ever-more-desperate BWB camp during the next several months? Yecchh.

[ Parent ]
No brain stem
TW...that comment by Ritter was stupid...if a baby doesn't have a brain stem, a woman wouldn't need to abort it, she would naturally miscarry it.
