  1. “New Rule: Stop referring to Sarah Palin as a renegade.  A renegade is someone who rebels against convention.  What is Sarah Palin rebelling against?  Grammar?  Wildlife?  Sports analogies?  Face it, Sarah, you only rebelled against one thing in your life: family planning.”

    1.

While I agree she’s not presidential material, she did run against a corrupt incumbant from her own party. I’d call that rebellious.

Any dems show backbone like that lately?

      1. you’ll need to give some examples of some truly corrupt Dems who need to be removed. While I can think of some long-entrenched Senators who ought to call it a day I’m unaware of any elected Dems who are believed to be half as dirty as the typical Alaska ‘pub.

          1. Dodd — Trumped up bullshit, but he is currently being primaried

Jefferson — Primaried but won, lost the general, is no longer in Congress

Frank, Boxer, and Feinstein? I had no idea any had been accused of corruption. Being a loudmouth and/or a lousy Senator is not a crime last time I checked.

Burris — raised less than a thousand dollars and is out, and would have been primaried otherwise

But I would add to the list Murtha and anyone else (regardless of party) ensnared in defense department procurement payola.

          2. After all, your question was referring to the here and now.

Phoenix – good point about Murtha. Unfortunately unseating gerrymandered congressmen with that much seniority is pretty tough. I don’t think Palin’s predecessor was anywhere near that entrenched, or else we would never have heard of her.

        1. Murtha’s looking more and more like he needs a forced retirement….

As for former Gov. Palin (I can say that today, right?), I have to agree with Ralphie – she wasn’t any cleaner, just newer muscle coming in…

      2. In the past few years NJ has seen over 130 public corruption convictions (under Bush) … yesterday afternoon the FBI added 30 new targets.

I liked this comment best … just over three weeks after assuming the office of mayor, Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano III was arrested by the FBI as part of a major corruption, organ transplant, building permit and international money laundering conspiracy probe.

        What a ticket!

        1. But it wouldn’t matter who–NJ is a “target-rich environment.”  Especially Hudson County.

By the way, the arrested State Assemblyman from Ocean County (Van Pelt) is a ‘Pub.

  2. “Other Democrats, such as Pennsylvania’s Bob Casey and Colorado’s Mark Udall and Michael Bennet, were said to have been willing to vote ‘no’ if necessary. Twenty minutes after the voting began, Bennet and Udall left the cloakroom together and walked into the chamber. Bennet went to the well to consult with Schumer, who indicated that it was safe for Bennet — a product of D.C.’s St. Albans School — to vote with the NRA. Bennet looked to Udall, who gave an approving nod, and cast his ‘aye’ vote.”  (from Washington Post’s Dan Milbank’s story on the gun vote).

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/

So apparently (a) Bennet is a puppet and (b) he has to get permission to do anything of consequence.

        1. …because I refuse to use either codeword for the bill.

This was as stupid a bill as Sen Brophy’s. It eroded States rights to set legislative limits on firearms possession (which should piss off Conservatives) while making weak-ass concealed carry laws the standard for every state (which should piss off liberals.)

Do the Gundamentalists in America (and by extension, this site) have the balls to come out in support of a national concealed carry law? I doubt it….if only to use it as an excuse to start airing some stupid ads that say Communist-Islamo-Facist-Liberal Democrats would take your guns away.

I’m tired of the GunNuts trying to impose their weird perverse desire for the right to carry their 9mm pacifiers everywhere. Every state gets to set the law based on prevailing community standard….deal with it.

  3. This topic is not restricted to Colorado and it really shouldn’t be political, but unfortunately the latter has become true due to focused effort of a few.

Anyway, I was just made aware of this guide, Climate Change Controversies: A Simple Guide, put out by the Royal Society.

For those who are interested, it may be useful as an overview. It doesn’t provide links to original research, however, so in my view this limits its usefulness.

It’s aimed at the layperson so it may be helpful for anyone who wants to understand whether or not climate scientists are, or have been, addressing some of the other possible explanations for observations such as “11 of the last 12 years have been the hottest since records started in 1850.”

(This has been another Public Service Announcement.)

  4. from TPM – a real family values Republican.

Meet Tennessee state senator Paul Stanley. He’s a solid conservative Republican and married father of two, who according to his website is “a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where he serves as a Sunday school teacher and board member of their day school.”

    Except for one little detail…

In a sworn affidavit, a Tennessee state investigator has said that Stanley admitted to having a “sexual relationship” with a 22-year-old female intern working in his office, and to taking nude pictures of her in “provocative poses” in his apartment.

    Oh, and another little detail…

In 1994, Stanley’s first wife, Judy Martin, filed for a restraining order against him, charging that he had physically assaulted her three times. She wrote: “He was going out the door to leave our house and he hit me with a tremendous blow and then he proceeded to turn and run away from me outside the garage to the street.”

    But he is consistent…

Stanley met his current wife, Kristi Stanley, soon afterwards, while both were working for Bill Frist’s U.S. Senate office in Memphis. She was working as — an intern.

  5. Hey, we’ll be bi-partisian. Also from TPM

Rep. Heath Shuler (D-NC) refuses to say whether he lives in the C Street house “because of privacy issues.”

Late Update: Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) is getting antsy about his C Street connection, too, when asked about it on a conference call with reporters:

“I will not discuss what goes on there, because I’m not there. … Are there other activities going on there? Yes. But what goes on and things like that, I don’t know. I have my room there.” …

“I have a room there. And I participate in a Tuesday night dinner once in a while there. … So there is no regimen. There is no group stuff I have to do. … You guys … are grasping at straws that’s not there. I rent a room there.” …

“I almost have to chuckle at your questions,” Stupak said. “No. 1, I don’t belong to any such ‘group.’ I rent a room at a house on C Street. I do not belong to any such group. I don’t know what you are talking about. … I have no affiliation. I rent a room at C Street.”

    Group orgies maybe???

    1. I have been ignoring this story, but this is start to creep me out more than a little.

I am very comfortable with evangelicals, I am married to one.  I am comfortable with people having strong conservative religious values, my objection comes when they use their religion as the justification for policy decisions (religion should inform your personal beliefs, but you have to have a secular/rational basis for policy).

However, what is going on at C street, enabling behavior and secrecy, is troubling.

  6. .
