VP Cheney: says freedom is for everyone, gay marriage a right

Now that Dobson’s head has likely exploded, the Dems can finally be reassured that a very low number of citizen’s actually hate those with GLBT or asexual relationship preferences.

http://www.foxnews.com/politic…

WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Dick Cheney said Monday he supports gays being able to marry but believes states, not the federal government, should make the decision.

“I think, you know, freedom means freedom for everyone,” Cheney said in a speech at the National Press Club. “I think people ought to be free to enter into any kind of union they wish, any kind of arrangement they wish.”

“And I think that’s the way it ought to be handled today, that is, on a state-by-state basis. Different states will make different decisions. But I don’t have any problem with that. I think people ought to get a shot at that,” he said.

As usual Cheney spent the majority of his time at NPC defending the administrations security policies that have been reinforced by Pres. Obama, some change huh.

The liberal drive by media just can’t handle the facts … the keys being that there are many citizen’s outside the ProgressNow crowd that support gay marriage — including VP Cheney and that Bush’s policies remain in-place protecting America’s freedom and security.

Like any states right issue, those that deny this right will lose the economic prowess of those that feel they would live elsewhere without a right to marry, divorce, etc…

Meanwhile the liberal hate crowd continues to spin the lies that have been proven wrong.

  1. This from the guy who just today said there was no connection between Sadaam and Al Qaeda. WHAT? wtf? Last week he was still running that con.

Shooter is spinning around so fast his head’s tilting more than usual.

His backing off of “release the memo’s” is telling. It’s no longer “the enhanced interrogation worked”. It’s now “the overall program worked”. Sounds like a perp gettin’ the story out, just ahead of bein’ charged.

The same rat that ran away from Vietnam era  military service via 5 deferments as a young coward is now running from his own record as an old coward. Stripes don’t change.

His opinion on gay rights? Who cares?

    1.    This is a nuisanced improvement in Cheney’s position on same sex marriage.

Previously, he opposed the Federal Marriage Amendment, but I don’t recall him openly supporting SSM.

IIRC, he supported civil unions and he made vague statements about matrimonial law traditionally being decided at the state level.

      1. because he isn’t running for anything now other than cranky Pottertown chief asshole.  Would’ve never flew running for congress in Wyoming !  I would love to have seen what he was willing to say running for 3 terms there – I am sure there are some gems.  But hey, now its all OK. Yeah.

Another reason why I hate this criminal.

        1. Fact is, he kept quiet about it because the wave of “marriage protection” ballot measures were instrumental in getting enough base votes to ensure the Bush/Cheney victory in 2004. Coming out in favor of gay marriage in any meaningful way would have been counterproductive, to say the least.

He’s a shallow hypocrite. I commend him for at least loving his daughter and accepting her sexuality and letting that guide his views, but he wasn’t willing to risk anything politically when he was in a position to do something about it.

          1. When it mattered, and when he might have suffered a hit or two for supporting something that was unpopular at the time he could’ve done something.  He calculated, as always, and kept his forked tongue in check.

Fast forward to now when it has no impact on him he supports it.  Cheney will virtually say anything to meet his own ends.  He is just such a complete self serving a-hole.

              1. just adding to what you said about Cheney and the missed opportunity during the debates.  He ducked and hid on the issue and now he’s the most hip, tolerant free thinking dude on the planet.

              1. Who brought shooter’s new, kinda sorta nuanced stance up? You did. The people replying didn’t originate this diary. You did. Nobody’s cranked up about shooter but you. His only audiences are nut job groups like CPAC and the Heritage Foundation, maybe AEI. Maybe not after last week. Backing off the value of torture doesn’t sit well with the lunatic fringe, but he’s doing that because he feels the noose tightening.

Shooter’s only relevent if we let him be.

  2. “There you go again…”

Apparently you don’t know what the ‘liberal drive by’ media is up to–no doubt stuffing your head full of Manatee upchuck and Faux Nooz(tm).

For instance the fact that the anti-gay forces are rapidly dwindling in numbers–changing demographics, splits between social and libertarian wings of the GOP, etc.–have and are being reported, as is–and has been–Cheney’s position, even in the drive-by media.

I understand that being as challenged as you are, to frame a real argument would probably cause your head to explode, so you spend your time crafting silly little straw men, then knock them down with all the bluster of a play Rambo.

    Good job.
