With a vote of 89-2. Who were the 2 nays? Jim Bunning (R-KY), and Roger Wicker (R-MS).
Bunning has a seat on Energy and Natural Resources, the committee of jurisdiction over Interior and thus the committee of vetting for Strickland’s nomination. As far as I can tell, Bunning didn’t attend the confirmation hearing. But Wicker (freshman) does not sit on ENR, and there’s no obvious public record that has him voicing opposition. The only thing I can come up with is Bunning and Wicker opposing anybody/everybody on abortion grounds no matter how far removed abortion is from their job responsibilities.
And this probably doesn’t help.
