Shawn Mitchell did a single-handed fillibuster of SB 291. SB 291 says that if local communities further lower their mill levy, or rebruce as it is called, the state will not backfill. Not sure why this is so significant? Why should a local school district get to lower their rates, get credit with the locals for lowering taxes, all the while, the state pays the tab?
To try and explain this, Senator Mitchell in his pompous condescending tone, spends the evening reading court cases, and talking down to Senators. In the waining days of legislative session, this only serves to fan the flames of partisanship, on an issue that is more about local control than partisanship. Mitchell is a bore and did I mention pompous windbag? This solved nothing, and only polarizes and makes bipartisanship less likely.
Mitchell, you could use a little humility. Just because you were re-elected doesn’t give you the right to be an arrogant asshole, and show a complete lack of respect for your colleagues.
