Why is there so much resistance to this from the anti-union people?
This doesn’t give striking workers unemployment, just workers who are locked out by management. If the management initiates the work stoppage, even if it’s in response to a strike threat or other contract negotiation, it’s ridiculous that those employees can’t get paid simply because they’re part of a union.
This bill makes sense to everyone except the rabid anti-union crowd.
love em or hate em…HB1170 is a common sense attempt to make the law more fair.
In a strike workers who disagree with their union can cross the picket line (you might get kicked out of the union, but you can cross)- In a lock out the company takes away all right to work based on your status-taking away the freedom to work.
Though I am no fan, employers are within their rights, but a lock out is no different than a lay off and workers should be able to receive the unemployment benefits they have been paying for.
that 1170 is even needed. It really shows you whose side the Republicans are on when they passed the law that 1170 is supposed to overturn.
