As the NCAA Tournament barrels toward the Sweet 16, the wildly popular Colorado Pols Political Tournament rolls on.
We’ve updated the bracket (CLICK HERE to download the updated PDF) and picked a few upsets, so click below for more commentary and to view the images of each side of the field.
Note: Here’s how to fill out your bracket: Consider the Political Tournament a race towards a big final political office. But in the meantime, in each matchup, consider the two candidates in a hypothetical statewide political race.
For example, if Mark Udall and Scott Renfroe were running against each other for a statewide office, who would win? You choose the winner of that race and move them on to the next round.

The Colorado Republican Party’s future v. the Colorado Republican Party’s past….(not that there is all that much difference).
Never heard of Walker Stapleton.
(granted I’m not a political insider, but still…)
don’t you remember summering with Wah-lker at Kennebunkport — back before Maine was ru-ined by all those tourists!
He’s a Bush cousin. Apparently there was an airport, or mixed-use retail residential development, named after him in Denver somewhere, too.
Bushes are like bad pennies, just when you get rid of one, another one is wearing a hole in your pocket.
Or was that another branch of the family?
First thing on Walker’s list: Welcome Neil Bush back to Colorado, say all is forgiven.
If you start out with only a handful of women in the pool, you end up with even fewer in the next cycle.
Shafroth vs. Polis. CD-2 redux (sort-of). 2 Boulder liberals squaring off statewide. Question for the crowd, when we get a same-party match up like this, are we supposed to assume it’s a statewide primary or a statewide general? Cause I think that in the primary Polis cleans up, but if it’s open to independents and republicans (particularly independents) that Shafroth’s environmental buddies would provide enough financial backing for him to win statewide in a 2-person race.
Think of it as a statewide general election.
I think in that case I’m sticking with my predictions of McInnis over Penry and Shafroth over Polis.
Walker Stapleton wins statewide against DeGette. Prior to 2006, yes, not now. I can imagine hilarious TV ads with Walker Stapleton standing next to his cousin G.W. Bush. This Pols scenerio does get the possible 2010 Treasurer match up on the board. Cary Kennedy by 7 pts.
