Too many celeb birthdays to try and keep track of them all, but this one is noteworthy. Stan Lee is 94 today; the primary creator of Marvel Comics and all those characters within. He's still listed as an executive producer on the movies, and a script consultant.
When I left home for college, CHB. I left at home a trunk with almost an entire collection of every Marvel comic book printed up til then..all of the biggies…FF, Spiderman, Incredible Hulk, Daredevil, etc….three or four hundred of them. Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, John Buscema, and all the rest (whose names now escape me) taught me as much about the English language as most of my teachers (except for Mrs. Green).
Stan Lee deserves a Nobel prize as much as Bob Dylan. He created a literary plateau in graphic storytelling that has continued to elevate to the behemoth it is today. (The books, sadly, found their way to a home with five small children and were completely destroyed while I was at school. Today the collection would be almost priceless..pity.)
Happy birthday, Mr. Lee You are a genuine American success story..and always my hero…superhero, that is…
I subscribed to several Marvel comics during the 1970s and bought others. I brought the box of comics to Colorado with me in 1981 and still have it. Haven't been into the box to read any for at least 15 years and I need to get back into it just to re-organize and see what I have. I don’t think I added any to the collection; such as it is; after the mid-1980s.
I always enjoyed the interplay between Marvel and D.C., Marvel's main competitors. I recall grafitti on a wall; I think maybe it was a Spiderman comic; that said (quotes mine): "Batman sleeps with a night light."
Does anyone ever manage to keep their comic book collection intact long enough to sell for a profit? My mom (b.1931) had first issues of all the biggies: Batman, Superman, Spiderman, etc. They were stored in a shed and lost in a fire.
I still have my football card collection from my youth, mostly 60's and 70's. I went though it a few years ago and found a college card from the 50's for the Honerable Byron (Whizzer) White. No idea when or how I picked it up. It is my most prized card. My comics tastes were more Mad and Cracked.
I had a great baseball crd collection and lost it when our basement flooded, sigh.
See what I mean, V? To put the cherry on the above story, Mom tossed out my brother's baseball cards. There's no telling what they'd be worth today.
"Why oh why did Larry Mizel support Trump?"
Hopefully Pols is done asking that stupid question now.
I guess I'm missing out. I haven't seen that question being asked since before the election.
It falls under the general rubric: "Why would anyone with an IQ in double digits support Trump?"
I have been wondering what percentage of the "idiot" demographic voted for Trump. Evidence here would indicate it is a pretty high number.
