John Kasich Drops Out of Presidential Race

This is what Ohio Gov. John Kasich looks like.
This is what Ohio Gov. John Kasich looks like.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich is dropping out of the race for the Republican Presidential nomination. From CNN:

Kasich’s decision came after he improbably became the last challenger to Donald Trump, who emerged as the presumptive GOP nominee Tuesday night when Ted Cruz dropped out.

Even before winning his home state of Ohio in March, Kasich was facing pressure to get out of the race, with no clear path to victory. His campaign never became more than a spoiler run, designed to keep Trump from getting the 1,237 delegates needed to win the nomination before a contested convention.

Kasich obviously wasn’t going to defeat GOP frontrunner Donald Trump, but he could have just stopped campaigning and pulled an “Office Space.”

  1. Now what if Trump drops out saying "Just kidding! Why the hell would I want to take a pay cut to become President and probably get impeached over some silly scandal I'm guaranteed to get caught up in?  Can't you guys take a joke for Chrissakes?"

      1. No Republican is "sane and sensible" enough to suit Zap.  Kasich has his shortcomings. But for me as a traditional conservative Republican, Kasich was far, far preferable to either Cruz or Trump. Now I wonder who the Koch Brothers will support. According to a recent interview, neither Trump nor Cruz fit Charles' liking. He even hinted at maybe voting for Hillary.

        1. Kasich was the least conservative of the three by far. I would have supported him but he was never my first choice.

Reince Preibus said it. We have our nominee. It's time to unite and ensure there is NO third Clinton term in the White House. That's all that matters to me.

          1. You disappoint me, Moddy.   I actually thought you had a scintilla of integrity.   But nobody who kisses Donald Trumps syphilis-ridden backside can make that claim.

              1. In all seriousness, BC, I have an uncontrollable urge to find the best in people, especially in the mocked and the scorned.   Moddy from time to time showed a smidgeon of independence and I actually thought he would recognize a barf bag like Trump for what he is.  Wrong again.

                  1. Actually, Duke Cox and I had several informative exchanes today and MJ and I really enjoyed the meet up.  Even Dodd and Moi have been civil since we learned we both have advanced degrees in labor law and history.  There is nothing like Fascism triumphant to focus the mind, I reckon.

            1. Oh shit, you really weren't joking earlier?!? …

Damn, V, I gotta' say — that's even more funnier now!!   You da' man, man!!!!!

              ;~)

          2. Wow!  So you already got your Trump-brand Gold Plated Knee Pads I see, so you can worship at the feet of your new master!

If you can swallow Trump's sewage, then you are as responsible as he is for destroying any semblance of respect for whatever remains of the Republican Party.

Donald Trump is now the leader of the Republican Party. It’s real – he is one step away from the White House. Here’s what else is real:

Trump has built his campaign on racism, sexism, and xenophobia. There’s more enthusiasm for him among leaders of the KKK than leaders of the political party he now controls.

He incites supporters to violence, praises Putin, and, according to a columnist who recently interviewed him, is “cool with being called an authoritarian” and doesn’t mind associations with history’s worst dictators.

He attacks veterans like John McCain who were captured and puts our servicemembers at risk by cheerleading illegal torture. In a world with ISIS militants and leaders like North Korean strongman Kim Jong-Un conducting nuclear tests, he surrounds himself with a foreign policy team that has been called a “collection of charlatans,” and puts out contradictory and nonsensical national security ideas one expert recently called “incoherent” and “truly bizarre.”

What happens next will test the character for all of us – Republican, Democrat, and Independent. It will determine whether we move forward as one nation or splinter at the hands of one man’s narcissism and divisiveness. I know which side I’m on, and I’m going to fight my heart out to make sure Donald Trump’s toxic stew of hatred and insecurity never reaches the White House.

          3. Bull. Trump isn't a conservative at all. He's anti plenty of stuff but his policies don't fit any conservative mold. Kasich is pure traditional conservative. Cruz is Tea Party wacko. While I don't admire pure traditional conservatism and in fact believe classic conservative economic theory to have been thoroughly discredited decades ago, CHB's preference makes sense.  The only traditional conservative in the race was Kasich. If you like conservative classic rather than the 21st century Tea Party brand which bears little resemblance to it, Kasich should have been your guy.

          4. Yes, you have an intolerant, ill-informed, judgmental bigot for your standard bearer.  Get behind him and show the GOP's true colors.  And watch him become the party's pall bearer
            .

            1. Yup — you nailed it.   The thought of Trump going from Republican Standard Bearer to GOP Pall Bearer.

              Thermonuclear Party Implosion.

  2. Kasich never had a shot and should have pulled out months ago or better yet, never entered the fray. Realistic judgement is not his forte. Kasich has an elephantine ego – but not a match for Trump.

      1. Christie, Jim Gilmore, Pataki also had experience as govs. AJB.   Yes, that probably disqualified Pataki (my favorite of the lot) and Gilmore.  Christie was disqualified because he has a chronic disability: anorexia.
