So true. Another example:
Here's a chart that should bring a wry smile of vindication to our MIA sage of technology, DavidThi808:

Beware if you try to replace teachers with computers – the self-paced online courses work for a few select types of students:
1. Adults who are motivated (job advancement, etc)
2. Students who are motivated ( juniors and seniors in high school who are faced with not graduating), and who read close to grade level. (not more than 1 or 2 years behind)
3. Stay at home bright kids who are homebound because of health or bullying issues (gay and trans kids often are in this category – school is just too much a living hell for them, so though they're often very bright, they become at risk for dropping out).
But for any other type of student – kids who are learning English, kids who read 5 or more years behind their grade level, kids who have any type of learning disability – online computerized self-paced classes will just be one more opportunity to fail.
They need a caring adult to get to know them and their learning styles, figure out what their background knowledge is and build on it, convince the kid that they are bought in to their success. In other words, they need a teacher.
Agreed. I think the takeaway from the automation of any particular role is that it will never completely replace everyone (hey, there are probably still a few telephone operators somewhere in the world), just substantially reduce the percentage of employees in that field.
Where there is a need, there will always be a supply, whether human or automated (or likely a combination of both). But as David Thi might say, you can't expect to hang on to your old job unless you can do it better, faster, cheaper than the alternative.
So as several others on this site have said, we need to focus on what new, good-paying, middle class jobs we can create through smart investments in our own future.
We need to start from the ground up by replacing the numbnuts that have infected our politics with counterproductive policies (like subsidizing 19th and even 20th century industries at the expense of 21st century ones — O&G vs. Renewables as a prime example)

New polling numbers by McClatchy/Marist. HRC defeats all of the top Repubs with Rubio and Paul coming closest (i.e., within 5%) to her. She beats Bush by 6% (49-43) and Walker by 7% (48-41). One on one, she beats the Donald by 16% (54-38).
But my favorite is in a three way with Bush and the Donald, it's Clinton (44%), Trump (20%), and Jeb! (LNU) (29%).
Reminds me of 1992 when another Clinton ended up with 43%, a wacko third party candidate got 19% and a different Bush ended up with 38%. The more things change, the more they stay the same……
