  1. from failed GOP presidential candidate, Ben Carson, speaking about the AP History course that has the Jeffco School board in such a snit….

"There's only two paragraphs in there about George Washington … little or nothing about Martin Luther King, a whole section on slavery and how evil we are, a whole section on Japanese internment camps and how we slaughtered millions of Japanese with our bombs," Carson said at the event.

He continued, "I think most people when they finish that course, they'd be ready to go sign up for ISIS … We have got to stop this silliness crucifying ourselves."

    This guy is dangerous…

  2. Some Harry Truman quotes………..someone pass these along to Mark Udall if you get the chance:

"Carry the battle to them, don't let them bring it to you. Put them on the defensive and don't ever apologize for anything."

"When a fellow tells me he's bipartisan, I know he's going to vote against me."

"Republicans approve of the American farmer, but they are willing to help him go broke. They stand four-square for the American home–but not for housing. They are strong for labor–but they are stronger for restricting labor's rights. They favor minimum wage–the smaller the minimum wage the better. They endorse educational opportunity for all–but they won't spend money for teachers or for schools. They think modern medical care and hospitals are fine–for people who can afford them. They consider electrical power a great blessing–but only when the private power companies get their rake-off. They think American standard of living is a fine thing–so long as it doesn't spread to all the people. And they admire the Government of the United States so much that they would like to buy it."

“The Republicans … will try to make people believe that everything the Government has done for the country is socialism. They will go to the people and say: "Did you see that social security check you received the other day—you thought that was good for you, didn't you? That's just too bad! That's nothing in the world but socialism. Did you see that new flood control dam the Government is building over there for the protection of your property? Sorry—that's awful socialism! That new hospital that they are building is socialism. Price supports, more socialism for the farmers! Minimum wage laws? Socialism for labor! Socialism is bad for you, my friend. Everybody knows that. And here you are, with your new car, and your home, and better opportunities for the kids, and a television set—you are just surrounded by socialism! Now the Republicans say, ‘That's a terrible thing, my friend, and the only way out of this sinkhole of socialism is to vote for the Republican ticket.’"

  3. So this is Mitch McConnell's vision for America?  Would he apply his economic leadership in Kentucky to the entirety of the US?  Could we all be 'eastern Kentuckyans' under a Majority Leader McConnell?

(No trolls, this isn't from his trumped up  'War on Coal'.  That war is a geologic war, not a political one.  This has been a long time in the making…)

Where Are the Hardest Places to Live in the US?

  4. Yesterday I was a panel participant on "The Colorado Vision" at the American Wind Energy Association's Colorado Wind Forum, moderated by Bill Ritter, Jr.  We have built an impressive foundation under a very exciting future in renewables here in Colorado.

The "Limon 3" wind farm will be completed this year, making Lincoln County home to over 500 wind turbines.  An unprecedented economic development story in the shadows of the Front Range.  We've only touched the tip of the potential; the only thing slowing down our transition to a clean energy future is our political will.

Here's an interesting story from Kansas – and how Sam Brownback loved him some wind farms – until the Koch Bros. changed his mind.

If you think a Senator Gardner QuidProKoch would be immune to this kind of pressure from Chuck and Dave, think again.  In fact, with history as our guide, you can count on them instructing him how to vote on each and every issue.

If you want to power dynamic, robust a 21st-century economy with clean, abundant energy – you have only one choice for Senator in this election:  Mark Udall.

Sam Brownback Supported Wind Farms in Kansas – Until the Koch Brothers Changed His Mind

Have the Kochs’ contributions ensured Brownback’s loyalty? Brownback, along with other conservatives, might argue that his relationship to Charles and David Koch merely represents a convergence of interest and principle. But in Kansas, there is one issue for which the Kochs’ money has not reinforced Brownback’s views, but actually changed them. Under pressure from the Kochs and Koch Industries, who oppose measures to shift American energy use away from fossil fuels, Brownback has reversed his support for encouraging Kansas’s wind industry.

  5. Begich campaign to tout a set of measures to strengthen and expand Social Security.

Proponents of expanding Social Security have long argued that Democrats should campaign hard on expanding social insurance programs — at a time when stagnating wages and the lingering damage of the Great Recession have increased anxieties about financially unsustainable retirement – as a way to maximize traditional Democratic Party advantages on difficult political turf. The idea is that it’s good politics to push for an expansion of a hugely popular program that has been central to the Democratic Party’s identity for many decades, particularly at a time when Dems are facing a stiff political headwind and grappling with extremely difficult election fundamentals.

Udall campaign to continue calling Cory Gardner a poo poo head. And of course, for Udall to follow Begich's lead, he'd have to retract all his statements saying we should cut Social Security and that he'd "vote for it tomorrow"…

  6. State Board of Ed member: ‘U.S. ended slavery voluntarily’

Pam Mazanec, a Larkspur businesswoman who sits on Colorado’s Board of Education, posted on a Facebook discussion thread her concerns that questions asked on the Advanced Placement U.S. history test “portray the negative viewpoint as the correct answer.”

“As an example, I note our slavery history,” she wrote to a woman who teaches AP U.S history. “Yes, we practiced slavery. But we also ended it voluntarily, at great sacrifice, while the practice continues in many countries still today!

“Shouldn’t our students be provided that viewpoint? This is part of the argument that America is exceptional. Does our APUSH (AP U.S. History) framework support or denigrate that position?”

What is the constituency for such stupidity?
