In stunning move, Alaska Democrats and independents form fusion ticket to beat Republican governor
I predict this will grow into a trend.
In Mesa County, both liberals and libertarians and all sorts of unaffiliated folks are banning together to take down a Republican dynasty that has ruled this valley for decades. Our community continues to be mired in an unresponsive economy that has been built to favor one industry above all others. The Mesa County Republican Party leadership has been using our public resources for their personal gain as though the "commonwealth " was their private bank.
One scandal after another remains un-investigated and unreported. My friend, Benita Phillips, who is running for sheriff, has challenged all the other candidates to promise to investigate Colorado Mesa University, the Mesa County Sheriffs' Dept., and other public entities associated with Steve King and the culture of corruption surrounding the regional airport board and other Republican led organizations.
There are a lot of Republicans who are ducking for cover as I write this…with good reason.
It's a hopeful trend, Duke. As much as I feel my own values match Democratic values, and as much as I write and work on behalf of Democratic candidates, there are unhelpful and unhealthy aspects to the Democratic party.
I've been appalled by the "good old boy" machine – party funds go only to those few hand-picked candidates approved by the Central Committee. Dems tend to ignore down-ticket races – to their peril. Vic Meyers' seat in CD4, for example, is a winnable seat, if resources were dedicated to it. His opponent is Ken "What the f*ck?" Buck, for Gawd's sake, and Meyers is twice the candidate Buck is. Yet Meyers is struggling to fill his gas tank to campaign around the state.
Instead, candidate and issue committees will spend millions running repetitive ads about abortion and birth control. At the Colorado State Fair, men and women were constantly coming up and asking, "What does Udall stand for?" I could and did tell them – privacy, conservation, infrastructure, immigration – laws which help middle and working class people – yet, Udall's own literature pieces were all about attacking Gardner, not touting his own work.
And, of course, our top ticket people – Udall and Hickenlooper, in Colorado – are every bit as bought off by the oil and gas lobby as the Republican candidates….and every bit as reluctant to speak out against the poisoning of air, water, and the degradation of community health around fracking sites. This reluctance to piss off the oily boys runs up and down the ticket.
So I'm glad to see a Democratic – Independent alliance in Alaska, with the goal of taking a Exxon shill out of power- let's hope that it is a trend.
Take a look at NY Dems under Andrew Cuomo if you want to see a dysfunctional and destructive Democratic Party Machine. It is disgusting and I'm glad our side is willing to hold electeds accountable.
MJ, I agree with much of what you wrote, but you are way off on CD-4.
Has Meyers ever been elected dog catcher?
The district has about 100K more Republicans than Dems.
Over the last year Meyers has raised about $2K per month.
If Stryker gave him $250K, he would still lose by 20%.
He may be a swell guy, but anybody looking at the race objectively sees he has no chance, which in some ways is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Way cool! Not only does Parnell have to deal with this indie-Dem fusion ticket but he's also PO'd Caribou Barbie over the oil tax initiative last month.
Maybe this amps up turnout amongst Dems and indies which spills over to help Begich against that guy from Ohio running against him.
Has anyone seen the latest 538 projections?
Outstanding.

Troll with a POS poll.
Con Man Cory will lose.
Romney in a Landslide!!! WIF

By the way, neither says what you want them to say.
What was Nate forecasting in early Septmber 2012, that's what one must measure against, not how accurate his final analysis was. Troll trotting out tired CO Peak Politics blah-blah-blah. Or 'analysis' in Trollandia
Louisiana, the state that gave us the Duck Dynasty, Governor Piyush "Bobby Brady" Jindahl, and former State Representative David Duke (R-Klan) has shown the homophobes some loving. A U.S. District Court judge finally (a first, after 21 of his colleagues held otherwise) concluded that it's ok to ban same sex marriage in the Bayou.

Well, looks like the 2010 Lie of the Year is back.
GOP seizes on 2008 statement by Mark Udall on health care reform.
Is that the best he can do? Yippee skippy! He'll be looking for a job come January.
Geebuz. This is the flavor of the day? BTW, "Mark Udall was elected on a lie?" Has ConMan forgotten who their candidate was in '08? These dudes just can't seem to separate themselves from lobbyists and warm water.
Senator Warren on Letterman, her book, “A Fighting Chance” said Wall $t spent a million a day on lobbying against Consumer agency," too big to fail" only got bigger, and taking even more risks on “investments” ( casino gambling- derivatives) lower the student loan interest rate, What jobs? (my emphasis )
A path to corrective action seems simple- too few senators, statesmen (& women) come forward. Applause lines were obvious, what cant Pols see?
Senator Warren will be in Jefferson County on Friday, speaking with Perlmutter's campaign volunteers.
