The M&M duo of Mark Udall(D) and Marilyn Musgrave(R) are at it again, this time trying to change the earmark system. With projects out there such as the “Bridge to No Where”, “Cow Girl Hall of Fame”, and “Tea Pot Museum”, it should be news to no one that the system is broken and is in desperate need of change. Musgrave and Udall have both agreed to take a one year moratorium on appropriations funding until more transparency is brought to the system.
Both Udall and Musgrave risk backlash from their own parties for such a stand. Marilyn Musgrave was chastised by many in leadership of her own party after calling fellow Republican Don Young to the carpet for his infamous “Bridge to No Where”. Mark Udall on the other hand is on the outer most parts of a limb by taking, what many would call, a conservative stand on the ear mark process.

Two U.S. Representatives from Colorado join to call for earmark reform
Staff ReportsTwo Colorado U.S. Representatives teamed up Thursday in an effort to change earmarks.
Taking a bipartisan stand against earmarks, U.S. Reps. Mark Udall and Marilyn Musgrave held a joint conference Thursday urging leaders in both parties to mend the earmark system in place, according to a press release from Musgrave’s office.
Both Musgrave and Udall have publicly stated they will not request earmarks this year in hopes of changing the system, which needs more transparency and oversight, according to the press release.
This is not the first time the two representatives have worked together. The two have fought for veterans’ health care, advocated for the wilderness designation in the Rocky Mountain National Park and obtained disaster assistance funding for Colorado’s ranchers and farmers, according to the press release.
