We've received the results of a new poll from Quinnipiac University, and to put it bluntly (pun intended), we learned very little. Quinnipiac is one of our favorite polling outfits in general, but this poll about Colorado Super Bowl parties and marijuana is, well, not particularly informative:
Thinking about their Super Bowl buzz, 6 percent of Colorado adults who plan to watch the game say they will enjoy it with a mix of beer and marijuana while 36 percent plan to stick with tradition and just drink beer, according to a Quinnipiac University poll completed last night and released today. Another 2 percent plan to go with marijuana only and 56 percent say they will take neither beer nor marijuana.
Among adults 18 to 49 years old, 3 percent plan to toke up while 43 percent plan to drink beer and 8 percent plan to do both, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. Among adults 50 to 64 years old 4 percent plan to enjoy both beer and marijuana while 32 percent plan to only drink beer. Among adults 65 and older, 1 percent plan to try beer and marijuana while 18 percent are keeping it to beer only.
No kidding, huh? You mean most people aren't confessing that they are going to have a big smoke-in for the Super Bowl? Did you ask what percentage are planning on a bring-your-own-heroin party?
But there are some polling results that we found especially interesting — though they have nothing to do with politics:
Colorado adults say 84 – 7 percent that the Broncos will gallop over the Seattle Seahawks. There is almost no difference by age or gender.
Peyton Manning is a better quarterback than John Elway, adults say 32 – 14 percent, with 53 percent undecided. Men pick Manning 38 – 16 percent, compared to 26 – 12 percent for women. There is little difference among age groups.
“How quickly they forget. Coloradans by a margin of two to one think future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning is a better quarterback than the legendary John Elway,” Malloy added.
John Elway? He's that guy with the steak restaurants, right?

No weed for me to watch the game. I like to remember what down it is.
What I wonder, do the pollsters really think that 56 percent would have no beer? Are they wine drinkers? Whiskey? Martinis? Inquiring minds want to know.
I just can't see 56 percent of Colorado adults watching the game not drinking anything.
who has the ball? what happened? What time do we eat?
Sounds like spme of the revs / missionaries – that I have "met" in my travels!
Give Quinnipiac a break on the substance use poll. It's a fun coincidence (though some claim there are no coincidences) that teams from the first and so far only two states with legal recreational pot are meeting up in the Super Bowl. They're just having some fun. On the plus side, also making it pretty clear that legalization isn't turning everyone from grandma to junior into pot heads.
I'll say this, though. If the downtown crowd would all smoke pot instead of drinking any beer (don't worry bar proprietors. This will never happen) you wouldn't have to worry about the I'm so happy we won (or so pissed we lost) I'm going to turn over a car and set stuff on fire crowd dynamic.
