In case this star-studded event was left off your social calendar last weekend, Denver's Brown Palace Hotel hosted its annual champagne cascade. By all accounts a spectacle, with a swordsman hacking off the tops of champagne bottles and pouring the contents into a two-story "pyramid" of some 6,000 glasses. Present was none other than electorally embattled Rep. Mike Coffman:
Whose famous remarks about the state of Social Security–he actually used the term "Ponzi scheme," not "pyramid scheme," but you get the idea–make this a doubly amusing photograph. Also, as CBS4 reported and you can see in the picture above:
The champagne cascade also honored the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.
This is a champagne pyramid. Honoring the Boy Scouts.
Without making any of the many, many jokes of widely varying appropriateness that could be made here, let us just speculate this may be the kind of thing that makes those secessionist patriots in Weld County wonder what the hell is going on in the big city.
