Scott Walker and Ted Cruz: We want you in Colorado this weekend as much as women want you all up in their lady parts

In case you haven’t heard yet, the 2013 Western Conservative Summit is happening in our fine state this weekend, and along with its arrival comes a ton of out-of-state conservative lawmakers determined to make government REALLY, REALLY SMALL – small enough to fit inside your uterus, in fact.  It feels a little weird that extreme, anti-choice politicians like Scott Walker (aka Governor Ultrasound Jr.) and Ted Cruz are coming to Colorado since their views are at odds with the voters of the state, or why they’re choosing Colorado to promote views that are way outside of the mainstream of those of us who live here.  Then again, maybe they were asked to come by Mike Coffman and Cory Gardner, who are confirmed speakers at the conference, since both of them are also on the fringe of public opinion with their support the Personhood Amendment that was on the Colorado ballot in 2008 and 2010.

Colorado voters have twice gone to the ballot and overwhelmingly said that they will not tolerate extremists on the issue of reproductive rights. Gov. Walker just signed a bill mandating medically unnecessary and unconstitutionally invasive sonograms for women seeking abortions in Wisconsin. Sen. Cruz actively urged the Texas legislature to pass the laws Governor Rick Perry just signed that will put women’s health at risk and shut down 37 of 42 women’s health clinics in his state.

Karen Middleton, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado, today questioned why extremist, anti-choice politicians like Scott Walker and Ted Cruz are coming to Colorado since their views are at odds with the pro-choice voters in the state.

“Colorado women don’t need “Governor Ultrasound Jr.” – Scott Walker and Ted Cruz telling them what to do. Maybe they should take the lessons of Colorado’s pro-choice majority back home with them, and stop promoting more politicians intruding into the lives of women.”
