      1. He has the money, but I think he would have trouble state-wide because he is gay.

I don't think that is fair, but it is probably reality. Plus, he has no executive experience.

  1. It is time for the anti-immigrants to be exposed as liars, or ignorant, when they call the legalization in CIR "amnesty".  See video here.

Or hopefully this embed code works:

    1. omg…(shaking head)

      Yes, yes they should.

If only there was a political party  organized around truth and justice, you know, the American Way.

Instead, we have the Whigs and the Democrat party. One, realizing governing is often complex, embraces the complexity and gets blistered for it.

The other is still wondering why slavery was so bad anyway. Those people got to get out of that place they were, they got educated for free, they get free healthcare, cell phones and food stamps. Sure, segregation was probably a little mean, but it is in the bible, and besides, they really did not want integration anyway.

But I totally agree with you on this one: anyone who calls the path to citizenship in the Senate immigration reform bill "Amnesty" is lying or too ignorant to know the difference.  Of course, that is also true of anyone who wants to blame the current VA Secretary and President for not getting the new Denver VA built on time and within budget.  It's true of anyone who believes that America has no more racism.  It's true of anyone who believes….. a lot of things.  Let's call them all out for all their ignorance and at the same time, lets privatize education (voucherize) or cut it altogether.  Then let's have an election with no primary and no partisan coordination to winnow the field. And then after we all vote for th emost pure and noble candidate (s), we can have a party in my uncle's barn and watch the unicorn poop gold bars for awhile.

    2. ps

I've tried every embed/share code there is for this platform- none work.

I know, I know, someone will tell us how they got it to work. But they probably don't have to reset their password (to the same password) everytime the log in either.

      1. Even weirder, I was going to reply earlier, decided to cancel the reply, but hit the "Log Out?" link in the comment box instead.  Guess what, I was logged out of the Tuesday Open Thread ONLY.  Couldn't log back in to save my life — "undefined" error message and blank account/password fields).

Finally, tried logging in not from the login section in the upper right corner (no, that would be too simple), I logged in from the Reply box, got the WordPress login, and was able to log back in, just so I could reply to your childish whine that you can't embed videos 😉

        1. Like your winky smiley face.  You know what happens to me when I click on the smiley face icon above? Everything greys out, can't do anything, have to totally x out and get back on to start over.  Naturally whatever comment I wanted to enhance with the little guy is gone when I come back, which is only to be expected. Finding any way to edit for spelling errors, typos etc. is so challenging now, I don't do it anymore. If I don't catch stuff after re-reading my comment it just goes through.

Apoplogies in advance. I'm a sloppy typer who gets ahead of myself and makes errors due to thinking a whole lot faster than I can accurately type, not that it takes much. Really lousy typist. And I'm beginning to wonder if problems here aren't having a negative effect on my computer in general. I run scans that find stuff quite a lot all of a sudden.

For a long time, I knew how to function pretty well in my limited way here. Now it's always something and not always the same something from day to day. In any case, it will be a long time before I try clicking on Mr. Smiley again. And no advice from our nerds please. I don't understand it anyway.

Well. here goes.  Hope it's not too error riddled…and….post comment!

          1. My sympathies, and agree completely.  But my trick for the smiley face is not to use the icon provided, but to simply type it the old fashioned way

            🙂  : – )  (I added spaces so it wouldn't get interpreted as a second face)

            😉  ; – )

            🙁  : – (

  2. Please call your Congress critter TODAY and urge him to support the Amish amendment to the House Defense Appropriations Act.  The amendment is described as follows:

Ends authority for the blanket collection of records under the Patriot Act. Bars the NSA and other agencies from using Section 215 of the Patriot Act to collect records, including telephone call records, that pertain to persons who are not subject to an investigation under Section 215.

Amash's amendment received bipartisan support from the start, including backing from Reps. John Conyers (D-Mich.) and Jared Polis (D-Colo.) upon the bill's introduction in June.

The Administration is so worried about the support for this amendment that they have sent NSA head Gen. Keith Alexander up to the Hill to conduct a secret briefing which they are specifically instructed that they cannot share with their constituents or staff.

We need a noisy counter to the Administration's private (secret) pressure.

    1. As the girl says,

I'm done feeling disappointed by these attacks. That is why I'm speaking out — even if I am only 14 years old.

She says it her way (Good on her.), we each say it our ways. The "mushy middle"? Some, especially those who will be of voting age in four years, will respond favorably, some not. I, frankly, am delighted by her sign (Thanks, Daft.) and not offended by Daft's term for the middle, which, anyway, is minuscule on this issue.

  3. Sigh. Pure self indulgence that accomplishes nothing besides allowing little princess to feel hardcore and dad to feel like one of those (at least in their own minds) cool dads. Aren't we the hip edgy ones? Yeah, good for them.

    1. Dang, while you're at it, why don't you tell her to get off your lawn, or something….

Seriously, though….I don't think she's speaking from as far a fringe as you might think. In my circle of friends and acquaintances, I can tell you, the womenfolk are getting royally pissed off. Can't say as I blame them.

      1. Nothing to do with fringe. There's nothing fringe about wanting the government out of personal decisions concerning our autonomy.  More to do with all of us who are already pissed off just entertaining ourselves and each other, calling it political action and being really pleased with our clever snarky selves.

So let's all of us,  righties and lefties both,  enjoy looking down our self righteous, noses at the provincials in the middle and dismissing them for being mushy.  Yeah, that's the ticket.  And why shouldn't we be just as insufferable as the righties? It's so satisfying.

        1. Who's looking down their noses at anyone? Are you getting all of this from just the photo?  I didn't see anything in her interview that was looking down on anyone else.   BC, you seem intelligent and informed….she's in Texas, for Christ's sake…maybe you've read about what's been going on there?   I don't see where all the hostility's coming from.

          1. I think I've explained my position on the efficacy of this brand of messaging pretty well. If you and Daft think this is a form of messaging that should be cheered, fine. I don't.

If Daft thinks those who might find it off putting should be dismissed as "mushy middle", that's an opinion to which Daft is certainly entitled. I don't share it.  I'm pretty sure lots of people would be put off by this who don't deserve to be dismissed.

If you see my take as bitter I'm perplexed but I suppose that you are perplexed by my failure to share your delight in this pair's presentation.

I can only say that I don't feel the least bit bitter or the least bit disapproving of the jist of their position as too far out on the fringe.  To me, it certainly isn't. I just see their choice for the expression of the position as needlessly vulgar and not at all useful. I see a distinction between what's amusing for our virtual alter egos trading smack on a blog populated by a tiny political minded minority and what's of practical use in real world public square situations. I see political rallies and demonstrations as opportunities to draw attention and expand support beyond the usual suspects.

Sorry if my inability to share your view of this has offended you and I assure you I'm not offended by your inability to share mine. We do seem to share views more often than not, after all.

            1. BC-

You seem to be assuming a great deal, here. I'm not perplexed or offended by your position; if you find the sign offensive, that's your business.  I'm not emotionally invested in that.  My only puzzlement is in your characterization of the pair, which seemed to have a healthy dose of "looking down the nose" in and of itself.

I understand your position, and it's completely reasonable, but with respect, I don't share it. What's going on in Texas and other states is beyond vulgar, beyond offensive.  I don't dismiss the "middle", whatever your interpretation of that is. I think most of them are either too complacent, too distracted by Miley Cyrus or the Royal Baby, or too busy just trying to hold their own lives together to take notice of things that are going on.

I remember when burning bras was considered offensive.

              1. I thought I explained pretty thoroughly that it was Daft's , not the folks in the pic, remark about the "mushy middle" I was referencing. After all it is an exact quote .I also thought I made it pretty clear that it wasn't a matter of personal offense about the sign. I agree with their position already so whether or not it's offensive to me personally is beside the point.  They've already got me.  Even though I do find them pretty silly.

In any case, I think we've made enough of a sincere, sustained effort to explain our positions to one another here and it isn't getting us anywhere.  Probably won't a dozen or two comments hence either so II'm  ready to drop the effort before we accumulate a ridiculously long string of back and forth. Peace be with you, my respected cyber friend.
