Mejia Lines Up Ad Buy of His Own

  • by: Colorado Pols

We just got a look at one of Mayoral Candidate James Mejia’s first campaign videos, and while it’s only ten seconds long, it certainly gets his name out there.

This is a good preliminary ad for someone like Mejia. We can honestly say that few people beyond hardcore Denver activists have even heard of the guy, and a short introductory spot like this one goes a long way towards getting voters to acknowledge “oh yeah, that Mejia guy is running.”

In fact, though it comes off as kind of cliche in terms of a Mayoral race television ad, we think Mejia’s first buy is much more effective than what Carol Boigon recently announced she was going to air. It doesn’t give any information about Mejia, that’s to be certain, but for a race which will presumably have a lot of ad buys from a myriad of candidates, this type of advertisement might get voters to take a better look at James and his website.

In comparison to Boigon’s, this ad certainly paints the candidate in a better light. While Boigon’s flattery of Hickenlooper might remind some voters about their previous Mayor, it just made Boigon look a little out of touch. Mejia ends up looking like a potential Mayor in this ad, something that will go a long way with increased television presences from all the candidates.

This isn’t the type of television advertisement that will win this race. But it’s certainly a very good introduction to a candidate who hasn’t really held elected office before and his message.

We should also mention that if Denver elected a Mayor based on their talents as a voiceover artist, Mejia would have this thing locked up.
