If you’re confused about health care reform, we don’t blame you. With all that’s being said on the news and on the internet, it’s hard to decipher the real message, the real truth about what reform means to us as a country and as individuals. As we’ve noted in earlier posts, there are many myths circulating with the intention of dissuading Americans from believing that a change in our current health care system would be a positive one. Whatever the motivation, let’s focus on what is happening now.
Health care costs are on the rise. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation’s Employer Health Benefits 2009 Annual Survey, over the past 10 years, employer-sponsored health insurance premiums have increased by 131 percent. Employees have seen their cost of job-based coverage increase at nearly the same rate during this period, jumping from $1,543 to $3,515. Health care reform would provide relief to employers, alleviating this problem. And according to a study on home foreclosures, about 1.5 million families lose their homes to foreclosure EVERY YEAR due to unaffordable medical costs. With a cap on out-of-pocket expenses, we could see that number drop significantly.
Chances are you have a vested interest in the health care debate, and TruthAboutReform.org can help you make informed decisions no matter what side of the aisle you find yourself on.
