  1. Happy Friday!

"To be GOVERNED is to be watched, inspected, spied upon, directed, law-driven, numbered, regulated, enrolled, indoctrinated, preached at, controlled, checked, estimated, valued, censured, commanded, by creatures who have neither the right nor the wisdom nor the virtue to do so." Pierre-Joseph Proudhon

      1. CT  – just curious… if/when you see that someone has determined that up is down and light is dark, and is unresponsive and contrary to any intervention or assistance, what do you do?

Please – "do not annoy, torment, pester, plague, molest, worry, badger, harry, harass, heckle, persecute, irk, bully, rag, vex, disquiet, goad, beset, bother, tease, nettle, tantalize, or ruffle the animals" trolls. Mostly- no feeding.

        1. Madco,

It is all about perspective.  You may be the 1 that has confused light with dark…

          James 4:4

          New International Version (NIV)

4 You adulterous people,[a] don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

  2. Psst, Rush…Your about half right this time.  Republicans have become the negative, mean spirited and souless party.  It's really a sad commentary on the party of Lincoln, Eisenhower and yes, even Ronnie Reagan.

      1. Only if it's according to the proper rules and procedure which Tvert simply points out in the news article. And good luck with that, dear prohibitionist-inclined legislators. Or live with the contitutional court challenges, I would imagine.

  3. Hiram Revels from Mississippi. He didn't last very long unfortunately, only serving a short time until the Democrats took back control of the state legislature following the end of reconstruction.

    1. Cool. I was pretty sure he was from MS, but I wouldn't have been able to name him without looking it up. I believe there were other African-American congressmen, Senators and mayors elected throughout the South during Reconstruction, but I couldn't name any of them from memory, either.

  4. Obama tells Planned Parenthood: Abortion foes want return to 1950s

President Obama vowed Friday to fight with Planned Parenthood against what he said were efforts across the country to turn women's health back to the 1950s.

Obama's comments were the first to be delivered by a sitting president before the abortion-rights group. He lauded the group's nearly 100 years of service to women, providing cancer screenings, contraceptives and other health services.

"When politicians try to turn Planned Parenthood into a punching bag, they're not just talking about you," he said. "They're talking about the millions of women who you serve."

Obama slams anti-abortion state laws in Planned Parenthood speech

President Obama spoke to nearly a thousand Planned Parenthood supporters Friday, telling them efforts to restrict abortion access across the country represented an effort to “turn back the clock” on women’s progress.

“When you read about some of these laws, you want to check the calendar, you want to make sure you’re still living in 2013,” Obama told the crowd.

In the past two months, four states — Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas and North Dakota — have adopted some of the most stringent restrictions on abortion in the nation, while Virginia has also imposed new rules on abortion providers by making them comply with hospital-style building standards. Lawmakers in 42 states have introduced legislation this year that would impose some kind of limits on access to abortions.

    1. Here is a stupid thing…

in the recent debates about gun safety and gun legislation, the opponents were loud while observing and opining that since gun criminals are not going to follow the laws, why bother having them.

Meanwhile – terminated pregnancies were common before they were legal.  Would be common again if they become illegal.  Since women who knw they have a right to choose did not and wiould not follow the law- why bother with the law anyway?

(aximatically related- if choosing pregnancy termination was illegal- what shold the penalty be for a woman who breaks that law? )

  5. At least he's not your anti-pot state legislator…

A New York State Assemblyman will be able to put his marijuana bust behind him after completing 20 hours of community service.

Stephen Katz (R) sits on the Assembly Committee on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in the New York legislature, which coincidentally voted down legalizing medical marijuana in 2012. A vote in favor of legalization could have kept him out of trouble back in March when he was pulled over for speeding and found to have marijuana in his possession.

    1. Much the same thing has happened to the memory of Ronald Reagan. I remember quite a different guy than the great statesman so many seem to recall nowadays. In the early seventies, our pet name for him was "Ronnie Ray-gun".

      Funny how time changes history…
