Usually these "At Least They Aren't Your Legislator" posts are well outside of Colorado…but not always. Lakewood City Councilman Dave Wiechman had to apologize recently for some mysterious pictures that magically appeared on his iPad. From "Our Colorado News":
Ward 4 councilman David Wiechman issued a public apology at the Feb. 4 City Council study session for accidentally showing a city employee an inappropriate image on his personal iPad.
“For the embarrassment I caused for the employee, city staff, City Council and all the citizens of Lakewood, I do deeply apologize,” he said during the reports portion at the end of the meeting. “I’m deeply sorry for my mistake.”
According to Wiechman’s statement, the event happened in December. He said that he uses his personal iPad instead of a city provided one to receive his city e-mails, and was having problems receiving those city messages.
“One night before a City Council meeting I was asking an IT employee to help me with my e-mail problem. For some reason when I turned it on a picture came up of a scantily clad celebrity,” he said. [Pols emphasis] “Obviously it was an accident — I was surprised, the employee was surprised. I immediately shut it down, but it was inappropriate.”
In the pantheon of stupid excuses, this statement from Wiechman is a classic. He doesn't even bother trying something like the old "rogue staffer" approach — no, Wiechman just tries to play it off like one big mystery.
