  1. I worry that the Democratic Party is not up for the challenge of our times. Jeffries & Schumer respond to issues with convoluted statements that are nonsensical to anyone who doesn't understand how Congresspeople speak. The DNC is a self-inflicted mess where their biggest issue is proper gender division for the Vice-Chair votes.

And we have no clear national leader. Definitely no one that resonates with a significant part of the electorate.

With that said, kudos to the electeds that are trying.

  2. Where is your evidence that the "biggest issue [for the Democratic Party]… is proper gender division for the vice chair votes ""?

Agree on Schumer speaking uninspiring gobbledygook. I'd much rather see Elizabeth Warren as Senate leader.  But a far bigger  issue is Schumer capitulating to republican pressure as with his budget vote.

Pre-emptive compliance with fascist policies is a losing tactic.

      1. David, I looked at the two articles you cited as "evidence" that the DNC is failing because it is obsessed with gender politics. The first Politico article link went to a non-working page. The second detailed DNC Chair Martin's political power struggles, which seem very familiar, and very old-school. Not really that much different than David Williams' GOP politicking except that Martin doesn't seem corrupt, fascist, and crazy., just inept at building coalitions.  There were also hints that DNC has split with the teacher's union, and with David Hogg's anti-gun youth group.

But not a word about gender politics or proper pronouns for the Vice Chair position.

Seems as though "gender politics" are much more your problem issue than anyone in the DNC's.

        1. David's issue as well as an issue for many voters.

Remember how effective Trump's slogan last November was:  "Harris is for they/them. Trump is for you"?

  3. The fruits of that smiling Republican horseshittery (a.k.a.  “Reganism”), circa 2025:

“I’m here from the T****ublican Government and I’m here to help out myself.”

    1. Revisionist history being a Republican speciality, younger generations may not quite grasp how hateful and bigoted was the Reagan ( or “Raygun”, more aptly) government.

A particularly hilarious claim made lately by Dear Leader, is that he created America First…he didn’t…but I digress.

I am alarmed by the re-emergence of Steve Bannon in Trumps’ circle of advisors. My recollection is, he was kind of on the outs with Fat Donnie, but made inroads with the Capo de tutti Capo by opposing Musk. Bannon is one of the most dangerous fascists of the bunch.

    1. Fat Donnie couldn't resist showing off that he's got the biggest bombs.  That's all it took once the Generals explained the damage they could do.

    2. Pshah.  Planning is for parades.

So, I’m guessing Hegseth will get his mulligan and King Don Loon will soon be announcing the date for this next bigly victory parade celebration for sometime within a couple of weeks; July 4th so lazy Americans can all celebrate on yet another costly, non-working holiday?

  4. Seeming retaliatory strikes by Iran:

    –Close the Strait of Hormuz

    — Cyberattacks anywhere and everywhere

-(Note: I removed the option of dirty bombs using enriched uranium because that material is ineffective in spreading radiation via an explosive device.)

    Buckle up.

    1. There are a number of scenarios … one article with possibilities is Politico: 8 Experts on What Happens If the United States Bombs Iran .  One source, "Ryan Crocker is a distinguished chair in diplomacy and security at RAND, and he was a career Foreign Service Officer who served six times as an American ambassador: Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Syria, Kuwait and Lebanon."

Iran will have two broad choices: (1) return to negotiations prepared to concede retaining any enrichment capability, or (2) retaliate. Retaliation could include blocking the straits of Hormuz, attacks on the energy infrastructure of the Arab Gulf or attacks on U.S. military and diplomatic targets in the region, either directly or via affiliated militias.

    2. I would still worry about dirty bombs.  I agree they don’t cause mass death or destruction, but their ability to inflict terror, and that they could be used to contaminate strategic or symbols of Western (esp. American) power.  Think if they irradiated the Statue of Liberty, NY Subways, Wall Street, etc.?

  5. At this point, I am overwhelmed by the irony of Trump lecturing Zelenskyy about flirting with “World War Three”.

I guess he wanted to reserve that privilege  for himself. You know, the ol’ “I, and I alone, should start a world war” shtick.

  6. Local Mayberry town drunk Hegseth did his presser where he claimed ol orange F A T T Y saved America from a nuclear war while placing a target on every American. There is no question that Iran will retaliate and a 22 year-old grocery clerk who is in charge of our National Security will never see it coming.

    1. Is it just me, or does it increasingly seem TripleJs' speeches were written for the professional wrestling audience? Did his speechwriter once work for Vince McMahon?

      1. Funny you should ask: "Steven Cheung (born June 23, 1982) is an American political advisor who has served as the White House communications director since January 20, 2025"

        His background:

As a college student in 2003, Cheung became an intern in then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's communications and speechwriting office in California.[11][12] He moved to Washington, D.C. in 2008 to work on John McCain's presidential campaign.[13][14] Cheung has served on the campaigns of Steve Poizner for California governor, Sharron Angle for U.S. Senate, and Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst for U.S. Senate.[15] In 2013, Cheung transitioned into a career with the Ultimate Fighting Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he worked as "a director of communications for public affairs at the UFC".[16] He was involved in the UFC practice of banning reporters critical of the organization from live events.[17]

  7. Bro Secdef 's public fellatio of $rump was nauseating.

Hegseth ran out of adjectives praising $rump: bold. brilliant. focused. powrful.bla. bla.

Some that weren't mentined: Unconstitutional. Unlawful. Arrogant. Pre-emptive.Warmongering. defensecontractor enriching.

Wants to be a "War President" so he  can declare martial law.

      1. Trump basically gave China a green light to go after Taiwan.  Back to the days of "Might Makes Right" and Spheres of Influence.  Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand — you guys need to handle it yourselves.

  8. Dominance Trumps Hegemony. EmptyWheel.

End of the post WWII US hegemony.

Trump cares more about the feeling of domination than he does about success for anyone but himself and loyal allies, much less than the country as a whole. And that psychological craving for the feeling of domination is what Bibi played to — in the wake of Trump’s flaccid military parade and the contrasting joy of the No Kings protests — to get him to join a war of choice against Iran. Trump was manipulated to use dominance rather than hegemony against Iran in part because his other efforts to obtain full capitulation — from law firms, from Harvard, from California, from China — have failed.

Stephen Miller, too, seems to know how to trigger Trump’s psychological need for domination, even while Miller’s administrative ineptitude creates surface area for attack in the larger effort to pursue authoritarianism.

This is not Iraq 2.0 because, whereas Cheney used that war to expand and perfect US surveillance, Trump is largely ignoring external surveillance, relying instead on lies from Bibi, preparing instead to vastly expand its focus internally.

This is not Iraq 2.0 because during Iraq 1.0 the US was a largely uncontested hegemon, whereas Trump has not only destroyed the tools by which the US persuades rather than coerces cooperation, he has a psychological need to seek only coerced capitulation. Absent that — in the face of pushback on Ukraine, on his trade war, and on democracy itself — he became and becomes vulnerable to cooptation by people like Bibi. Trump left a G-7 that refused to capitulate to him and sprinted headlong into Bibi’s warm embrace.

  9. A great day for America. A great day for Democrats. A great day for Republicans. It's just a damn great day that we have President Trump in the oval office willing to make a decision to protect your whiny asses from nuclear destruction.

    1. Roger, after Iran mines the Straits of Hormuz and gasoline goes up to $9 per gallon, will you still be cheering?

    2. Keep in mind:

      • The United States played a significant role in the 1953 coup that reinstated Mohammad Reza Pahlavi as the Shah of Iran,
      • Islamic Revolution was in 1978-79 — pushing out the Shah and bringing in the clerics. Consequences include
        • US hostages held for 444 days.
        • Iran-Contra affair
        • US support of Iraq in the Iran-Iraq of the 1980s.
        • Iran's development of asymmetric strategies like proxy warfare:  Hezbollah, arming Shiites in Iraq, backing the Houthis and their attacks on shipping. How many American deaths came from the hundreds of rocket and drone attacks against U.S. military bases and diplomatic facilities in Iraq?

The US will be reaping the consequences of its bombing for the next generation.

    3. C’mon…his decision was not based on saving our whiney asses, which this attack has, in no wise, done. It was an ego trip in many ways, not the least of which is his conviction that by subduing Iran, he will bring peace to the Middle East and his nomination for the “Noble” Peace Prize, provided by Pakistan, will not be wasted.

Pear, Trump only has one motive for everything…his massive, now unrestrained, ego.

Oh…I forgot to mention using up previously stored munitions that will need to be replaced…a $30,000,000,000 bonus for the bomb manufacturer.

    4. Christ on a Crutch Pear-shaped Vietnam Vet, WTAF did you do in the military? Underwater messkit repair?

The Secretary of Jägermeister approved an airstrike on facilities that had been evac'd a week before. (Well, he probably drunk-mumbled his consent to the strike package after his POL-reject Chief of Staff gave him said strike package) Why bomb an empty hole in the ground, unless all you wanted out of the event was some PR-positive time on the Sunday news shows?

Pushing aside the immediate tactical reactions that Iran can take (close the Straight of Hormuz, suicide-bomb some key US facilities in the Gulf, mass balllistic missle strike on US bases in eastern Turkey, massive drone strikes from merchant ships on Guam) this has already made some key NATO allies withdraw their forces from Iraq. And with the Homeless Guy with a Podcast hooting and shrieking his dissent over this raid, how long is the nutjob branch of the Republican't party going to stay unified on this?

When the Bomb Damage Assessments come back from this futile raid, it's gonna look pretty bad for the Orange Clown Posse as they try and justify…whatever the fuck they plan to sell next.

    5. @Pear. I know you worship Trump to no end but can you ever once in a while say "hmm. I disagree with him here actually". You can at least show up in posts to sometimes state your nuanced opinion rather than blow Trump's weiner eveytime. Also, if you support this so much, volunteer yourself and your family to go to war.

    6. You are one sick fascist fuck if you think this is a good thing.  But it's par for the course.  But you quisling neocons are so convinced of your own righteousness that facts never matter.  Now go starch your brownshirt, rotting fruit.

      1. Roger has a crush on Tulsi, so this must be a real conundrum for him. Because if Tulsi is telling the truth ( there was no need to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities, as they were not building a nuclear weapon)

Gabbard in March testified on Capitol Hill that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and that the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had not authorized the nuclear weapons program.

It follows that Trump must be lying when he says that Tulsi, his Director of Intelligence, is wrong.

        1. You’re applying logic, Kwtree.

Never underestimate the ability of people in the MAGA world to accept and believe two diametrically opposing ideas in their head simultaneously.

  10. Electric car? Solar panels? You speak heresy against The Screaming Yam. If it doesn't run on good ol' filthy petroleum, it shouldn't exist; just ask him. He's going to rid the country of this awful, clean energy.
