I view it as both good news and bad news – we're hitting two issues where the courts must decide if we remain a nation of laws or we become a dictatorship:
If the Supreme Court rolls over on this, then we become a dictatorship. And the sad thing is, I am unsure what they will do.
On the good news side, all these actions are so direct and blatant, it's not small steps that are a bit more toward dictatorship, it's direct blatant attacks on the rule of law. And that's better because the court can't just give another inch, they have to decide the fundamental question.
Fuck!
And yet we have annoying centrists and "moderates" who think this is fine and just as bad if Dems were in charge. I think we are turning crazy as a society.
I don't hear people saying it's fine or would be just as bad. I do hear (and agree with) people pointing out the complicity of the Democrat party and their fealty to the billionaire donor class as helping to lead to this point.
The NGO/Corporation/Regulator Revolving Door
Chairman Blank is a prime example of this
I worry that Chairman Blank has tunnel vision which will lead us to making some very expensive mistakes for the state.
Here's a snippet from the "ewww" story of the day. Well, the day is still young, Make America Gross Again, I guess.

Well, at least it is happening in West Virginia. Short of Mississippi or Alabama, couldn't happen in a more deserving venue.
Almost Heaven!
I believe the full name of the state is "West, by God. Virginia". As I have heard it…
I used to live next door.
Trump squeals like a stuck pig after Fed Chair Jerome Powell's comments about the potentially devastating impact of tariffs. After Trump's threats to fire him, Powell ever so politely tells Trump to stick it where the sun don't shine
Powell is frustrating Trump's attempts to debase our currency, provoke hyperinflation and turn our economy into one like that of a Banana Republic dictatorship.
And it is interesting to me that Trump is obviously so antagonistic to Powell and has not said "you're fired."
I don't think the *resident has the authority to fire Powell. But a precedent of leadership at "independent agencies" hasn't stopped Trump from announcing the termination in office on other leaders of other independent agencies.
Powell has made it clear he believes he has a set term until May of 2026. I'm guessing someone with the ear of the *resident has let him know the consequences of pushing Powell out are simply too unpredictable, but will likely raise more opposition than they want to deal with.
Here's your answer, JiD: https://www.axios.com/2025/04/17/trump-fire-jerome-powell-fed-humphreys-executor
At least Colorado isn't relying only on "thoughts and prayers" as an answer to mass shootings. Another on Florida University campus today. Four hospitalized, with an active shooter still on campus.
If you're really tired of seeing crowds of young people exiting a public building with their hands up as though they were the criminal, don't watch the video.
The Screaming Yam strikes again. This time, it's the Democratic members of the board that oversees credit unions https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5252367-trump-administration-fires-credit-union/?fbclid=IwY2xjawJuHxRleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHkjLrqNNuEiRFCjXiEWm-MaAgkKnl5FieiUDQFmeaGdLowW3-RTJ-azutlDJ_aem_yO2bxvJichnwplbeJvy7VQ.
And they’re not done yet. The Wrecking Crew is now tearing through the FDA, ’cause who needs to know our packaged food is safe? https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-fda-suspends-food-safety-quality-checks-after-staff-cuts-2025-04-17/#:~:text=WASHINGTON, April 17
Huge Drop in REPUBLICAN support for Trump (From 87% down to 72%). Rachel Bitecofer.
Rachel Bitecofer is a blunt voice for recommending better ways for the Democratic Party to win elections. This is a great article. One thing she points out is that supporting trans athletes polls very poorly, even with Democrats. No wonder the Republicans keep hammering on it. (Don't shoot me or her for reporting the statistics.)
I think Matt Yglesia made a great point on this. We embrace appropiate Seperate but Equal for men vs. women. Bathrooms, sports, Best Actor & Best Actress. So why don't we do the same for transgender?
My view is let transgender athletes participate on men's teams. There are instances of women participating on men's teams. My middle daughter played on a boys basketball team up through 7th grade and there was one other girl in Boulder doing the same on another boy's team.
Short reply: There are transgender males competing in male athletics.
Until a few years ago, we were willing to let school districts, statewide activity organizations, and sports authorities define the rules. Why shouldn't that continue, and the state legislatures and governors wanting to make culture points could politely be told "that's not your job."
A more detailed set of objections are laid out by the ACLU: Four Myths About Trans Athletes, Debunked
Particularly in sports sponsored by K-12 schools, there ought to be a clear and overriding interest in EDUCATION for the participants, with a diminished concern for competitive outcomes.
I'm sure those GOPers that claim to not approve of Trump now were and probably still are ok with him destroying eveything but are mad becasue they are losing money and realize he was actually not good at the economy. But they'll be back to suck him off anyways.
Fifteen Point drop is a FIFTEEN POINT DROP. I'll take it.
Let's run the numbers for all the mid-term elections given a 10, 15 or 20 point swing. The House will swing far towards the Democrats. It might be enough to swing the Senate.
I suppose we can hope this anger among voters means something. But I'll need to see it before I believe it. Back in the local/state elections earlier this year, left-leaning candidates did well but even better performances are certainly possible. We need to get left-wingers out of their couches too. Then maybe we can talk.
Definitely lean into the voter shaming. That has worked so well thus far.
Okay, not shaming, but maybe ask them if they really got what they voted for. Did they mean to tear down the FDA, the Department of Education, and the VA just for starters?
