    1. I'm not too worried about people from south of the border coming here to look for work. When the fires are finally out on the West Coast, and the insurance companies start settling up, every warm body that can wield a hammer or drive a dump truck will be needed to clear the wreckage and start rebuilding. I've got a feeling there won't be many demands for "Papers. please" for the next few years

      1. “President” Musk might agree, and be able to influence Trump. I don’t see the likes of Stephen Miller, Steve Bannon, or Mr. Homan going along.

  1. Good news this morning from the Associated Press. The SCOTUS has denied Utah's effort to file a lawsuit to try to "land-grab" millions of acres of federal lands in Utah. As of the time of the AP's announcement, the Court had not given a reason for its action.

    2. The SCOTUS has denied Utah's effort to file a lawsuit to try to "land-grab" millions of acres of federal lands in Utah.

Yeah, that came in the context of Utah's request to file an original action against the U.S. directly in the Supreme Court. By SCOTUS rule, a state needs the Court's advance permission to file such a lawsuit, permission the Court almost never grants.

As of the time of the AP's announcement, the Court had not given a reason for its action.

It never does in this context. The orders are short, sweet one-liners that amount to, "Denied; gtfo."

  2. Dagnabit, Jen Rubin is the latest to depart WaPo over its owner's knee-bending to the orange autocrat.

“I cannot justify remaining at The Post,” she wrote. “Jeff Bezos and his cronies accommodate and enable the most acute threat to American democracy — Donald Trump — at a time when a vibrant free press is more essential than ever to democracy’s survival and capacity to survive.”

“None of us could imagine [former Post publisher] Katharine Graham sending LBJ or Nixon a $1M check,” Rubin said in her statement, referring to former Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon.
