El Paso County Money Ticker - the First Q4 Reports

  • by: El Paso Rockefeller Republican

In the coninuing saga of money and politics in El Paso County, we now return again to the office of the Secretary of State and the breaking news:

“We’ve worked all weekend”, the harrowed public employee said, “and we’ve delivered the goods for Colorado.” (Actually, the SoS staff deserve applause – the Q4 reports were posted this weekend – so let’s hear it for their efforts.)

Anyway, I have all the races except the HD-20 race and the SD-9 race (I can’t find the HD-20 R candidate – Amy Stephens – contribs and the SD-8 D candidate – Keely Marrs – expends and I won’t assume they were zero), so I have ommitted HD-20 and SD-9.

Numbers below the fold:

HD 14
  End Q3 CoH
Lambert $2,257.17
  Q4   CoH
Rec $1,350.00 $3,602.67
Exp -$4.50
  End Q3 CoH
Teja $10,086.55
  Q4   CoH
Rec $1,670.00 $9,387.94
Exp -$2,368.61

HD 15
  End Q3 CoH  Q4  CoH
Cadman $3,077.12 Rec $3,400.00 $4,165.63
  Exp -$2,311.49
Hunter $1,995.49 Rec $4,365.00 $6,104.54
  Exp -$255.95

HD 17
  End Q3 CoH  Q4  CoH
Cloer $15,548.52 Rec $2,950.00 $4,408.98
  Exp -$14,089.54
Varney $633.78  Rec $465.00  $270.91
  Exp -$827.87

HD 18
  End Q3 CoH  Q4  CoH
Fisk $12,362.77  Rec $2,705.00 $12,142.09
  Exp -$2,925.68
Merrif $39,150.51  Rec $10,419.00 $40,886.13
  Exp -$8,683.38

HD 19
  End Q3 CoH  Q4  CoH
Looper $10,267.88  Rec $4,324.35 $9,422.23
  Exp -$5,170.00
Barela -$527.64  Rec $20.00  -$507.64
  Exp $0.00

HD 21
  End Q3 CoH  Q4  CoH
Gardner $586.77  Rec $2,775.00 $2,442.49
  Exp -$919.28
Lord $8,775.23 Rec $4,830.00 $11,123.94
  Exp -$2,481.29

SD 11
  End Q3 CoH  Q4  CoH
Jones $22,712.16 Rec $7,900.00 $27,237.16
  Exp -$3,375.00
Morse $38,845.58 Rec $13,270.00 $35,364.03
  Exp -$16,751.55

Dems hold CoH leads in HD 14, 15, 18, 21 and SD-11 – that is an increase in the number of races that Dems lead the CoH race in since the end of Q3. The numbers are a little misleading since the Rs had significantly higher expenditures than the Ds in HD -15.

However, the Ds had greater expenditures and retained the CoH lead in HD 14, 18, 21 and SD-11. These appear to be the races people have spoken of as competitive and the money numbers seem to follow that assesment.

)Can someone help me on this formatting, I can’t seem to make it work. The numbers read end of Q3 cash on hand, the q4 receipts, Q4 cash on hand and then the q4 expendidtures on the next line. Sorry I am sorry incompetent at this)

  1. If you choose no formatting, it becomes alot easier, because you could make a table or use the <pre> tag.  Barring that you could use the auto-format with <pre> tags, which format text into fixed width fonts.  If you put tabs in between every value, you can format it quite nicely.

That data doesn’t match committee reports on the site, but I figured it out.

    <pre>
    HD15 EndQ3CoH Rec EndQ4CoH Expenses
    Cadman $3,077.12 $3,400 $4,165.63 -$2,311.49
    Hunter $1,995.49 $4,365 $6,104.54 -$255.95
    </pre>

becomes (every space is a tab in that previous part)

    HD15 EndQ3CoH Rec EndQ4CoH Expenses
    Cadman $3,077.12 $3,400 $4,165.63 -$2,311.49
    Hunter $1,995.49 $4,365 $6,104.54 $255.95

You need to use tabs, and since Auto-format strips multiple blanks out of the comment.  Tabs will the correct gaps

If you do too wide of columns, you’ll break the width of the site.  You can see the tabs better if you view the page source.

      1. If you made that table in Excel it is super easy.

In the comment box, just type <pre>, hit return, copy and paste the cells in the box, return again, then type </pre>

Preview and you should be fine, as long as the cell text is not too long.
