Attended Pride Fest in Colorado Springs this weekend and was very pleasantly surprised to see the newly elected Mayor attend and address the celebrants.
Frankly I never thought I'd see the say that an elected official in CO Springs participate in Pride festivities.
I really enjoyed the CS Pride Fest. I will admit my head was on a swivel but the only real issues was someone driving a big steaming pile of diesel with Trump flags and honking an air horn.
I'll admit to being a bit guarded too….we only saw one anti-person there, other than the Log Cabin Republicans, but they paid for a booth and were just as docile with the gays as they are when they are at a Republican event. From what I saw, the crowd ignored both the protester and the LCRs.
The only time I went to CS Pride was in 1993, right after Amendment 2 passed. Yep, I was on guard the whole time and had my gas mask in my back pack just in case. But I was really surprised that even in that extremely hostile time period there were no problems that I saw. I understand some rowdy rednecks caused trouble late that night, but I had already left by then.
We also had a few local electeds there, even then, all Dems of course. In the 90s and 00s, you could routinely count on the House and Senate districts that included Manitou and stretched to downtown CS would be held by Dems. I remember there was one CS City Council Member there, but don't remember her name.
I saw over on Twitter that Auontai Anderson has declared that he is not running for re-election to the Denver School Board and is instead running for HD8. Discuss amongst yourselves.
Well, Leslie Herod is term-limited. Tai Anderson seems like a reasonable fit for that House District. He is smart, charismatic and an effective organizer, which is why the right has been trying so hard to attack his credibility.
Who on the right is "attacking his credibility?"
There were a couple of actual provocateurs trying to set Anderson up at a Black Lives matter protest at the Capitol. They were trying to start fights themselves, doing property damage, and blaming him.
Kyle Clark called that out.
Then there was a supposed accusation from someone with the BLM movement. That never panned out, either, although the police tried to contact the victim 13 times.
Then there was the whole soap opera with the lady who came forward and spoke for "62 sexual assault victims" accusing Anderson of unspecified sexual crimes. Weirdly, none of the supposed victims ever came forward and pressed charges or even spoke with police.
The accuser was not a DPS employee nor any kind of mandated reporter. She wanted the public to believe that 62 undocumented students had traipsed through Washington Park to her home to make the accusations against Anderson. She was trying to boost her social media footprint as a sexual assault and trauma consultant. All those accusations came to nothing, as well. I have links for all that, but don't feel like resurrecting them at the moment.
Anderson was found guilty of "conduct unbecoming" due to some flirty and inappropriate stuff he did before he was ever elected.
I'm aware of the idiot woman with the 62 complaints. I didn't view her as being left or right; just anti-Anderson.
Don't recall "provocateurs" at Anderson's BLM protest. Said people were around, however, during the 2020 George Floyd protests downturn.
Joshua Rodriguez and Joey Camp were the provocateurs at a BLM protest at the Capitol. They started vandalizing property, pretending to be left wing protesters.
Tai Anderson stopped them.
Kyle Clark taped them. Ss,o Rodriguez sued Kyle Clark. They’re both criminals, scumbags, con men, and yes, if you look at their websites and what they say they believe, they are right wing fascist wannabes.
So now you are “aware”. If you’re still vainly looking for progressives to blame, I’m sure you will find something on Newsmax.
Kwame Spearman (former CEO of Tattered Cover, withdrawn candidate for Mayor) declared his candidacy for the At-Large seat on the Denver School Board.
Anderson says he isn’t pulling out thinking he wouldn’t win, but because he wants to go the House. Colorado Sun says he will be joining three other Democratic candidates who already filed to run for the seat:
* Victor Bencomo, a Latino veteran and activist who is endorsed by Giffords, a national group that pushes for gun violence prevention measures
* Sharron Pettiford, a labor activist who is also a Denver NAACP officer
* Lindsay Gilchrist, a public policy consultant and foster/adoptive parent, who worked for the late U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy, a Massachusetts Democrat
Both Anderson & Spearman now need to do a bit of paperwork with Denver Election Division for November’s election, with Anderson out and Spearman in.
Ehhh…. he’s pissed off so many natural constituencies that he’s got a lot of headwinds in order to get through the primary. DPS parents want to tar and feather him for his school safety positions- he was going to get annihilated in the Board election. Black education advocates didn’t appreciate his seeking of restraining orders against them due to disagreements over the Robert F. Smith STEAM Academy. The pivot that he took towards embracing pro school-choice advocates to save his board seat and his abhorrent treatment of the female board members has turned off the DCTA. A lot of people are sick of his self-serving grandstanding.
But hey, Boebert got elected by feeding the base some red meat, so I wouldn’t put it past the progressive crazies to lap up his underdog schtick. As long as he talks up rent control, social housing, and an assault weapons ban he has some small chance as letting unqualified attention-seekers certainly isn’t restricted to the right.
He’s a misogynist that demeans women and people might want to start asking around on why he’s not allowed to return to MSU Denver or the Auraria Campus. Herod certainly won’t be endorsing his ass.
That's a lot to unpack, Wong…most of it hearsay and unsubstantiated, or greatly exaggerated. I haven't seen anything about DPS parents being angry with Anderson; he advocated against school resource officers, but there were and are pros and cons and advocates for both positions. Some SROs contribute greatly to their buildings and school populations; many just shovel kids, especially minority kids, into that "school to prison pipeline".
"Tar and feather" is extreme ( and racially charged) language for a nuanced position on school safety, and I'm not seeing any evidence that DPS parents want to do that to Anderson.
There is one community member who had an altercation with Anderson, not a horde of "Black Education Advocates". The decision to move the school was another nuanced choice.
I'm a member of the DCTA, receive their email, and haven't seen any discussion of Anderson in particular, although there's plenty of critiques of the dysfunction of the board, for which there is plenty of blame to go around. BTW, it looks as though Esserman is accused of being the misogynist, not Anderson.
What are the details on MSU Denver or the Auraria campus? You can't just throw something like that out without sourcing it. Time, context, etc at least.
You'd certainly consider me to be a "progressive crazy" who is just like the Boebert supporters in CD3. I don't care. Unlike you, I've met Anderson, gone to actions he led, seen him in action. I remember him personally stopping a fight and opening a way for a disabled young person to get through a blockade. He is friendly, caring, and charismatic. People gravitate to him because he is effective. I expect that in fact, Leslie Herod will be endorsing Anderson. He would have had that conversation prior to announcing.
But you've clearly got your boxers in a bind about Anderson; he's really under your skin for some reason. So back up your assertions with sources,

I look forward to seeing more muti-family development in these cities to support population growth and increase the housing stock that will, over time, lower the total cost of housing and provide more efficient utilization of city services.
