  1. Latest Republican primary poll from Emerson is out:

    Trump  62%

    DeSantis 16%

    Pence 7%

Looks like the Florida governor is fading fast, even before he announces.

    1. Methinks the only way trump doesn't get the nomination is if the non-trump part of the GOP can rally behind one single candidate.  But, as in 2016, that is going to happen, and trump will be the nominee.  And Biden will get re-elected

    2. Brit Floyd and the The Australian Pink Floyd play some big venues, but the actual Pink Floyd has been gone for a long time. It's difficult to believe that the trumpanzees will settle for a tribute band while the original is still touring.

          1. It sort of works in the context of this thread too…

            Mother
Can you keep them in the dark for life?
Can you hide them from the waiting world?

    3. My prediction: DeSantis doesn’t run this time.

He’s young enough to wait. The fact that nobody seems to like him and his donors are redirecting their $$$ should be a strong warning to him. He has five years to invent the “New DeSantis” (anyone remember the “New Nixon”)?

Is it really worth all the shit Trump will dump on him if he runs now? I think not.

      1. I agree, with one important footnote. If Trump has to abandon the nomination for any reason (criminal indictment or conviction, health, etc.), DeSantis wants to maintain himself as the best alternative so that he can substitute in when needed.

        1. Problem is, DeSantis backing off now will undercut ANY sense that he has the right stuff to be President.

If Trump can’t be the candidate for some reason, he’ll want to personally put the mantle on someone else.  Not sure who it would be. He’ll want someone in his own image — “rich,” a public persona, someone who can be “tough” with foreigners, and appeal to the America Firsters.  And of course, not a critic of Trump or Trumpism.

So that won’t be RonDe.  Or C Christie. Or L. Graham.

Out of the box thought — Tucker for President.  I’m not certain he is “rich enough” to draw Trump’s approval, but Trump would like the fame and the “tough” on issues persona.

  2. A good read:

Tucker Carlson and the arsonist-to-firefighter pipeline

On the surface, Carlson’s performance here is simply a little bit too rich. But it’s worth nothing that it’s more than just simple hypocrisy. Carlson here is engaging in what has become the central maneuver of the American power elite: presenting yourself as a solution to the problem that you have caused and are in fact still causing.
