Boebert Unintentionally Turns Glenwood Springs Fabulous

  • by: Colorado Pols
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R).

As the Glenwood Springs Post-Independent reports, last Saturday saw the town’s first-ever drag queen storytime event go off without a hitch, an event unintentionally inspired by Colorado’s premiere culture-warrior headliner Rep. Lauren Boebert:

U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Silt, shared tweets last year telling drag queens to stay out of her district with storytimes, and recently posted divisive tweets against the trans community.

If anything, the Arauzas joined Bluebird Cafe Justin Bishop in being more concerned about the people who have political opinions against the Divas and other members of the LGBTQ+ community… [Pols emphasis]

That’s the thing about demanding people “stay out of your town” when you don’t have any legal authority to do so: that just makes them more likely to show up. And show up the drag queens did, bringing with them…factually accurate stories about the history of LGBTQ+ people in America. The horror!

Each Diva picked the stories they told, and they were all centered on self-love, inclusivity and even some of the origins of Pride and backstories of queer heroes, like the story of late California politician Harvey Milk, “the most famous and most significant openly LGBT official ever elected in the United States,” Milk’s final campaign manager, Anna Kronenberg said in 2002.

Diva Thelma Thunderthighs said that it is crucial to remember the people who have laid the path for others today.

“I think it’s so good to look at the good, but it’s imperative to know that our history is not the proverbial rainbows,” they said. “We’ve had dark times, and that was a dark time. It’s important for the kids to know not to dwell on that, but to know we’ve come a long way.”

Although additional security was on hand to prevent any disruption, by all accounts Glenwood’s first drag storytime hour was a big success–and in no way inappropriate for the kids:

“There was nothing about that event that was inappropriate for my children,” [parent Steven Arauza] said. “It is highly inappropriate for bigoted people to sexualize children’s events for political gain, which was the reason why we had to have security as a thing in the first place.” [Pols emphasis]

In the end, children were only enriched educationally, and the symbolic protest against Rep. Boebert’s intolerance was lodged. It could be the first of many drag queen storytime hours across Boebert’s district. It’s not like the Roaring Fork Divas didn’t exist before Boebert, but Boebert’s demagoguery created the rallying point to publicly push back.

As a result, Boebert gets what she wants least.

    1. ^^^^^ [This from a person who manages to sexualize the paper goods aisle at the grocery store??] ^^^^^

Oh, Fluffy!! You could probably do children’s story hour, too — once you learn to read better, at children’s level.

(Now, if you could read at a second-grade level, you would’ve understood that the point of this story is that mummy’s boss is even more of an imbecile than you, and that she just pew-pewed herself again right in her tiny foot.)

      1. Remember, Fluffy's primative brain goes immediately into the gutter.

I seem to recall he was very agitated over a photo of former Representative Polly Lawrence in 2018 eating an ear of corn when she was running for state treasurer.

        1. Who knows, maybe whispering “thunderthighs,” or something similar, counts as foreplay when the lights get turned down low at Casa Fluffy’s?

  1. For someone who enjoys stomping and caterwauling orders for some folks to get out of a town, it’s really surprising how much she enjoys parading and displaying her own alterations and enhancements???

  2. I'm gonna put on my food critic hat and opine that the people who go to the Bluebird Cafe are less likely to come down with the shits after eating pork sliders than those who indulged at Shooter's Grill. Just my opinion.

  3. I'm all for sticking it to Q-bert whenever possible …

But liberals and/or Democrats promoting 'Drag Queen Story Hour' for children is political stupidity.

Frisch can win the next election, but not if he plays on the battlefield of the culture wars. Democrats win because they offer solutions to real problems, they will lose if they let gender identity become a defining issue.

    1. Well said. You've identified the one culture war area where far right wing Rs could get some political traction headed into 2024.

    2. My guess — Frisch won't way a word about this. If questioned at a community campaign stop, he should say Boebert is taking positions on that sort of thing while he wants to be in office so he can work for the people.  The fundamental message of his campaign hasn’t changed: “People want the crazy to stop.”

If the question is "do you want your kids to be exposed to Drag Queen Story Hour?" Frisch may lose some votes.  If the question is "do you want your kids and you and everyone else to be controlled by the people who object to Drag Queen Story House?" I think Boebert & company don't pick up many votes in the middle.
