  1. I have to admit, the passing of Voyageur has sullied my week. I loved the banter and that we were connected through our childhood region. I found this while looking for a death announcement. I first encountered Bob prior to this forum when we made the pitch to the (newspaper that shall not be mentioned) editorial board to support Amendment 37. As a rural ally, Bobs input was critical to getting their endorsement.

I imagine he and Ralphie are having a great laugh somewhere in the Universe.

    RIP, Bob.

The odd disappearance of the Denver Post‘s Bob Ewegen

    1. I hadn't remembered when Voyageur left the Post.  I did remember the (relatively small)  controversy about his retirement without recognition of his years of work there.

Here's hoping he gains some clout in an afterlife and can exercise it for the good of his home county.

    2. Michael, did you find an obit? I can't find one in the paper or online. He may have parted company with the Post on less-than-ideal terms, but I can't find a word about his demise either in an obit or in the main section of the paper.

      1. I did not, but it’s probably a little early yet even under the best of circumstances.  I imagine there will be something in the Holyoke paper in the next week.

      2. Haven't seen an obit yet. V was diagnosed with cancer in January and his daughter set up a site at CaringBridge to keep people apprised of what was going on. Misty's 2/22 post on that site advised that he passed. Apparently he just slipped away after a rough day of chemo.

            1. Just read the Caring Bridge updates.  Lots of family care and fortunately, reports of only relatively small amounts of suffering.

The note on Friday says "We will have a memorial service for him in about a month to allow time for members of his family to heal from illness and attend. Details will be shared here. Please share this information with anyone you believe should know."

When someone sees more, please mention it here on ColoradoPols.

  2. I too am saddened by Voyageur departing forever.  He provided a lot of good to all of us.

Fading away seems to be popular.  Another site I belong to, Trailmix.cc, we have the same issue, people going away and nobody informed about why.  It is sad as they leave behind a question rather than the answer.

  3. I'm going to miss him. He helped provide a rural perspective that is sadly lacking in most Colorado media.

As far as fading away is concerned, I found an entry on the CaringBridge site that his death came just a couple of days ago. The family could be taking their time writing an obit. They could be rightfully pissed off at the newssheet that shall not be named to pay hundreds of dollars to run an obit. They may elect to run it in a weekly in or near his beloved rural county.

Even kwtree may miss him, not that she'd admit to it.

He, Ralphie, Sue O'Brien and Ed Quillen, among others, are raising some glasses somewhere in the universe. Thanks, all of you. We miss you.

    1. I do remember after what (I think) was our last in-person gathering that kwtree graciously drove Bob home.  It was kind of a special moment.  I loved their banter…it made us all better.

    2. Westslope, you have now joined the small, select crew that presumes to speak ( wrongly) for me.

I knew Sue O’Brien as a neighbor and babysat her children. I admired her immensely. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall at Editorial Board meetings with Bob, when Sue was  Editorial Page Editor.

I did drive Bob home from our Pols get-together. I can’t say we bonded and forgave all, but we were civil. He had a lovely Victorian home with a gorgeous garden.

  4. I've recently been interested to read Bob's signed editorials way back in 1966 in the late, lamented Colorado Daily student paper. You can access these issues at the Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection website.

    1. Thank you, Michael but as you know:

      1.   The folks in MAGA world are lucky they can remember what they had for breakfast let alone events that were reported in newspapers in 2018.

      2.   Unless it comes out of Tucker Carlson’s pie hole, it isn’t true. (Or maybe Shawn Hannity’s mouth.)

      3.   Cognitive dissonance has never been a problem for MAGA folk. “I want safe trains and no gubmint regulayshuns.” (Didn’t the Koch guys say that the market would protect us?)

      4.   This is the result of the crisis at the border.

      5. STOP THE STEAL!

      6.   LOCK HER UP!

        1. BoBo and her sheeple …

Yesterday Jim Jordan, Marjorie Taylor Green, Lauren Boebert, Andy Biggs, Paul Gosar and other Republicans sent a letter to Pete Buttigieg and the Department of Transportation demanding NTSB documents related to the East Palestine derailment.

Here’s the Problem…  The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is an independent establishment of the US Government and NOT part of the Department of Transportation.

Since the entirety of the GOP House oversight Committee clearly needs a civics lesson, here you go:

          – The (NTSB) investigates every significant accident in the US

          – The NTSB is an independent establishment of the United States Government, not part of the Department of Transportation

          – The NTSB’s job is to make transportation safer by conducting independent accident assessments

          1. Maybe Kevin McCartney can give those documents to Tucker Carlson?  I mean once our patriot oversight heroes turn them up in their hearings on Hunter Biden’s laptop.

    2. Yeah, Trump improved government rules by eliminating what Obama did but it happened on Buttigieg/Biden’s watch.

So it works perfectly to allow team Ohio (and western PA and the t) to campaign. There will be a handful of people on the ground who know the difference, but they’ll move as soon as they can.

Employment is up in eastern Ohio. Remediation including water shipping (to Texas) result in hiring.

Free market will work – don’t want vinyl chloride fires in yur neighborhood, don’t buy vinyl chloride.
