Ballot Returns at 14 Days Out

  • by: Colorado Pols

The Colorado Secretary of State’s office released new ballot return numbers. As of yesterday, 271,407 mail ballots had been returned in Colorado. Here’s the pie chart:

As of 11:59 pm on Oct. 25, 2022

These numbers are well behind the same point in 2020, which of course reflects the difference in voter enthusiasm in a non-Presidential election. But if you look at the trend line from the SOS report, we’re at about the same point that we were in 2018:

  1. I would normally have voted by now but there are TEN state ballot questions. I haven’t decided on all of them – I suspect that’s slowing the voting a little

  2. This chart should actually concern the Dems. Traditionally, they dominate the early phase of voting with most GOP ballots coming in the last few days. The fact that affiliation break down of the vote turned in closely matches to the statewide registration breakdown suggests the GOP are bucking tradition this year.

It also suggests a really big turnout over all for a mid-term. Two open congress seats, and a third highly contentious one, will do that.
