TUESDAY UPDATE: As the Denver Post’s Conrad Swanson reports, freshman GOP perpetual outrage machine Rep. Lauren Boebert is taking the rare step of walking back this latest pronouncement, at least a little, after making unambiguously bad headlines across the nation:
“She meant to say weaker both times, not lesser,” Boebert spokesman Ben Stout said in an email. [Pols emphasis] “Congresswoman Boebert was explaining that while men and women are different, they complete each other in a beautiful way.”
That’s how the Bible verse reads (below), but it doesn’t seem much better overall, does it?
Saturday’s original post follows.
As readers know, we have a general policy of not responding to freshman GOP mother of all train wrecks Rep. Lauren Boebert’s nonstop firehose spray of provocateur outrages, crafted as they are to provoke us into amplifying with outrage Boebert cannot distinguish from praise.
But there are moments, and they do seem to be coming with increasing frequency as Boebert’s next reckoning in the November elections fast approaches, when to simply ignore what Boebert is spewing would do our readers and all of society a disservice–since this is the manifestly twisted thinking that powers her vote in Congress:
Boebert: We are created equal, we’re not the same, women are the lesser vessel, and we need masculinity in our lives to, to balance that, that so-called weakness, you know, just us being more frail and, uh needing that strength in our lives…
If you’re not aware that Boebert is in part quoting the Bible in referring to women as the “lesser vessel,” this will all come across as misogynistic in the extreme–and depending on your reverence for Scripture it might anyway. It is true that in 1 Peter Chapter 3, you’ll find a reference to women being the “weaker vessel,” but all this stuff Boebert tacks on about women needing a big strong hairy (inferring the hairy part) man in their lives to “balance” women’s “weakness” is male chauvinist claptrap that appears nowhere in the text.
Boebert’s interviewer Brad Stine, who unbeknownst to us until today bills himself as “America’s Conservative Comic,” had some facial expressions during Boebert’s commentary that say more about what’s going on here than we can decently write:
We don’t know about you, but the whole experience leaves us ready for a nice hot purgative shower! The only thing we can add is that this is the same Lauren Boebert Colorado Republicans from Joe O’Dea on down have not just tolerated but actively accommodated and praised, O’Dea in particular remarking recently how he has “respect” for the way Boebert “likes to use her voice.”
Imagine O’Dea trying to justify a lightning round of actual Boebert quotes.
In her case, clearly an "empty vessel." Go Adam Frisch!
Oh ye simple ones, learn prudence.
Oh ye fools, learn sense.
Selectively quoting from the Bible to justify a political agenda is a millenia- old tactic.
Biblical ( and other “holy book”) quotes have been used to justify slavery, low wages, women as chattel with no votes, no ownership, and no power, burning “witches”, feudal servitude, wars over religion, and the theft of indigenous land.
In Boebert’s case, she shills for the gun industry with her “ pistol-packing mama” schtick. I notice that she doesn’t quote the Apostle Paul’s directives that women are to be silent in church and submissive to their husbands.
Adam responds against the born again incompetent liar.
Who DO YOU want to represent the district against the 52 CA reps when it comes to water fights?
Boebert owns you people.
Rather than whining about Pols being "owned," Pear, maybe you can tell us what Boebert's positions are on the Colorado Water Plan; the Colorado River Compact; water for agriculture; and how she proposes to address these issues that are critical for Colorado's future.
^^^ This ^^^ Water is the key resource to a successful future. Thanks CHB
I'm guessing she will pray about it. That's all it takes…amirite?
When He says that it is time, another Flood will be on its way.
I fixed this quote from 2012 just for you, Pfruit:
Pear, she owns her failures sadly which harm those that gave it all to defend the Constitution.
Boebert wraps her rhetoric and acting in the US flag but as a disabled combat veteran she has done NOTHING for my fellow vets or me.
She makes good excuses and gets a few misinformed to stand with her for videos and pics but legislatively NOTHING for combat veterans in this district.
After that she is harming the district because she is ineffective as a legislator.
Boebert also strongly opposed any special designation for Camp Hale to recognize the heroes of the 10th Mountain Division.
I've had the blessing of getting to know a Buffalo Soldier who is a neighbor to a family friend. He's 97 years old and you would swear he was 20 years younger. It turns out he fought in Italy on a mountain next to where my great uncle, a member of the 10th Mountain division, fought. It's a tale of two souls: my great uncle retuned home a changed man and fought demons the rest of his life – the Buffalo Soldier, at 97, is planning a European vacation next spring with his girlfriend.
It would be of no surprise that Bimbo has zero interest in black soldiers, either.
Right. Whatever keeps your fascist pride flying high, pp.
Representative Boebert is living proof of the quotation, ” When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a bible.” (Wrongly attributed to Sinclair Lewis BTW)
The repeated call for putting her Fundamentalist church in charge of government is, I believe, a serious miscalculation on her part. Between that stupid pronouncement and the MAGAt determination to abandon Ukraine to the Russian onslaught, you might think she really doesn’t want to be re-elected.
Two more years in Congress will definitely take too much time away from her future career as a TV evangelist.
I dunno, Duke. Half the time I think she's just repeating what people more intelligent and more sinister than she says. The rest of the time she says things she thinks make her look smart. In each case, she fails.
The lesser vessel and the greater vessel are two empty, cracked vessels.
Boebert's district averaged a 9.3% Republican lean in 8 recent statewide contests according to the calculations prepared by Colorado Independent Redistricting Commissions Staff.
I think that is a fair "over-under" point for Boebert.
I'll be very surprised if she is "over" even after her relatively expensive campaign (no other House race in Colorado has spent $4 million from BOTH major parties).
CO-03 Campaign to Date (Sept. 2022)
The Grift is Strong in this one…
Is she racking up her frequent driver miles again this election cycle?
