  1. Do you think perhaps we made a mistake running the Mark Udall strategy and instead should have talked about inflation, abortion, and 1/6 insurrection?

Democrats ready for midterm blame game | The Hill

The one piece of good news is that there will be a generational shift after 11/8. Pelosi, Hoyer and Clyburn will all step down and Hakeem Jeffries will be the new minority leader.

  2. Special Rules For Lauren Boobert (From TPM):

House Rules Committee Chair Created New Rule For Boebert

House Rules Committee chair Jim McGovern (D-MA) crafted a “new rule” for far-right Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) when she tried to submit a bunch of ridiculous amendments, according to a new book by reporter Robert Draper titled “Weapons of Mass Delusion: When the Republican Party Lost Its Mind.”

    • That rule is as follows: “If you’re batshit crazy, you’re not getting an amendment.”
    • McGovern’s explanation: “We’re not doing this. I’m not going down that road. I’m not going to be part of any effort to legitimize people who are fucking lunatics.”
  3. Popular Democratic Initiatives. From HC-R:

In their year and a half in power, Democrats have put in place policies that are widely popular—indeed, the infrastructure projects provided for under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act are so popular that Republicans who voted against the law are nonetheless taking credit for them. Voters have long called for Medicare to be able to negotiate drug prices with pharmaceutical companies (83% in favor), now made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act, which also caps certain drug expenses, including the cost of insulin. Between 80 and 90% of Americans want basic gun control laws—the Democrats just passed the first one in decades—and a majority want funding for action against climate change (65%) and relief for educational debt (55%).

Support for supplying Ukraine against Russia stands at 73%, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll taken in early October. Support for Ukraine was a bipartisan commitment that changed only after Trump had the 2016 Republican platform, which had expressed support for Ukraine, watered down.

What has not been popular in the past year and a half, in fact, what has been quite unpopular, is the Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, overturning the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion. About 62% of Americans believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases, while only 8% believe it should be illegal in all cases, and 28% believe it should be illegal in most cases.

    1. Too bad the Dems aren't doing a very good job of running on their accomplishments. But, like in 2016, they're letting the far right wing talking heads set the agenda, resulting in the "broken economy" horse manure.

      1. I agree. To be fair, the Republicans have an extensive media network from ultra right to extreme right to regular newspapers owned by billionaires.

They also have a well-oiled micro-targeting machine, which is why you might not see the ads unless you are within the specific demographic getting the messaging.

      2. This trait goes back long before 2016. Democrats have routinely campaigned poorly since the mid 1990s. They have allowed the GOP, and especially they right-most flank of the GOP, dictate the conversation.

  4. News from DKOS Elections team

    ● CO-Sen, CO-Gov, CO State Senate: The League of Conservation Voters has deployed an additional $1.7 million to aid Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet, while the American Policy Fund is spending $1.5 million against him. According to analyst Rob Pyers, Bennet's outside group allies have outspent Republican Joe O'Dea's backers $12 million to $6 million through Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Everytown for Gun Safety has announced that it will spend a total of $2.7 million on TV and digital spots in the Denver media market on three separate races. The group is dropping $1 million to help Democratic state Rep. Tom Sullivan defend the open 27th state Senate District, which would have supported Biden 56-42, against Republican Tom Kim in suburban Arapahoe County. The remainder is split between commercials tying O’Dea to “MAGA Republicans” and aiding Democratic Gov. Jared Polis.

    1. drop in home sales……..

Yes, Pear, when interest rates go up, that has a dampening impact on real estate. But savers have taken it in the shorts since the end of the Great Recession. After artificially low interest rates for well over a decade, it’s our turn to make a little money.
