    1. We could be producing enough advanced biofuels from agricultural waste alone to not give two schitts about what the 9-11 terrorist organization is doing. Want to take a stab on the right-leaning lobby that makes sure that never happens?

The US-based oily boyz are popping the champagne corks. Nothing bolsters their bottom line like a terrorist “production cut”.

      From NPR

Saudi Arabia has also been concerned about a flood of oil from emergency stockpiles of Western nations. Rousseau says roughly 180 million barrels have been released globally since March, and 75% of that (about 134 million barrels) has come from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

“This has been a very significant reserve release,” he says, which has caused global supply to get ahead of demand. “So that’s one of the reasons why Saudi Arabia may lead OPEC to take some oil off the market, so that supply and demand can get more in balance.”

    2. Here’s a good read on next steps in Saudi relations.

      Biden's new Saudi

Khalid Aljabri, a Saudi dissident, made a direct link between OPEC's move and the midterms. "This unprecedented cut is nothing short of a naked assault on democracy and election interference to harm Biden and the Democrats," he alleged.

  1. Is this day 3 of waiting for Granahl to produce her detailed report from "top economists" on how she can eliminate the state income tax and cut the gas tax and still provide quality public services?  Inquiring minds want to know.

    1. Nah. I doubt it’ll come. She made the front page of The Denver Post today with that silly nonsense about the “cat children” I’m sure she’s basking in the glow of her earned media.

      1. "…silly nonsense about the 'cat children'”

I'm visualizing a reboot of Andrew Lloyd Webber's production. Maybe call it "Kittens"?

  2. Wasn’t it Bart Simpson that said, “All the best bands are affiliated with Satan” ? Well, it looks like their branding experts have decided to say the quiet parts out loud:

    1. Jennifer Rubin puts it as succinctly as possible:

Herschel Walker is a symptom. The GOP is the problem.

Walker might be the most egregious Republican candidate since Trump himself, personifying the party’s abject disregard for character and cynical attitude toward public service. And many in the MAGA cult have cheered these trends on as a sort of political nihilism. For them, politics is all a scam, so why not grab what you can?

The Republicans who should know better — the pundits, elected officials and donors — know a good scam when they see one. They are all too happy to exploit those they consider rubes (Walker and his supporters, for example) to attain their aims. They make money, maintain access, further their extreme agenda and gain their own pound of flesh from liberals.

Walker has vividly revealed the shabbiness of it all and the consequences of allowing amoral people to use whatever means necessary to attain power. Walker is a symptom. The GOP is the problem.

  3. For those who are in the Aurora / Denver area … a request for you to consider for a group I volunteer with.

The Denver Urban Debate League will have its first tournament of this school year on Saturday of this week.  Denver Urban Debate League programs break barriers for underserved students by enriching educational and personal outcomes for students of color and low-income students.

Good news — we have almost twice as many competitors as last year's "virtual" first tournament.  But that creates a bit of strain, too: we need more judges. No experience is necessary — if you can volunteer, we provide any basic training you would need.

The in-person tournament will be at Vista Peak Preparatory (out near DIA) on OCTOBER 8.  Competition rounds are 9:30, 10:30, 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, and 4:00. Each round is 60-90 minutes and the necessary before and after stuff adds about another half hour. We particularly need more judges for the rounds starting at 10:30, 1:00, and 3:00.

Students from 10 "underserved" high schools will be competing in policy debate, student congress, interpretation, prepared speech (oratory & informative speaking), impromptu, and slam poetry.

Go to http://www.denverdebate.org to learn more about the organization and http://www.denverdebate.org/sign-up-for-shifts.html to sign-up. If you can come, ask for John — I'll come out of the tab room and thank you in person.

      1. thanks … the dates for other tournaments are on the website.

In pre-COVID times, number of competitors grew.  It will be interesting to see if that same pattern happens this year.

  4. Ok, am I going into crazy conspiracy land or does the following make sense?

Elon Musk tweets out about as pro-Russia a tweet as is possible while retaining the tiniest bit of credibility. The next day he says he'll pay full price for Twitter with no concerns about having the funding for it.

What if Putin offered him 40B to help with the purchase, with a promise from Musk to allow all the pro Russia and pro Trump voices free reign on Twitter. And to prove he will do so, required that tweet from him as initial proof.

    Nuts or possible?

    1. Isn’t what you just described Putin’s “deal” with the Trump crime syndicate over the past couple of decades?

Seems legit …until I read this.

I expect our Putin lovers on this site to steal your idea and take it to Moscow now.

    2. One could wonder if Putin has $40 billion to spare, just laying around.

Of course, I've read that he's fleeced Russia and the Russian people out of maybe $200 billion.
