Today's good news is that Casa Bonita has 29 staff members that just finished a free 16-week language program prior to the re-opening. If their native language is English, they were taught Spanish, if their native language is Spanish, they were taught English, all in an effort to close the language barrier.
This after saving the restaurant, hiring James Beard nominated executive chef Dana Rodriguez, and giving the whole place a massive face lift – Trey Parker and Matt Stone are on a roll.
How freaking cool is that?

I've always considered it a place where you went for the "atmosphere" more than the food, but at least the food was affordable.

In the past 10 years, I've spent extended time in Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, and some limited time in Paraguay and Uruguay. My rudimentary Spanish generally worked OK. However, most young people didn't want to hear my Spanish. They wanted to practice their English.
I have run into that myself, especially in Japan and Romania, with locals wanting to speak English instead of their native language. Good on you CHB for making the effort though.
