  1. [Repost from yesterday.  Sorry, I posted this kinda late yesterday.  I feel like this is a story in CP's wheelhouse and would love to see it in the spotlight]

FWIW.  Neither of the Roaring Fork Valley’s corporate-owned newspapers (Aspen Times, Post Independent) chose to run a story about the Boebert family neighborhood confrontation, nor to inquire into the Sheriff’s decision not to pursue any charges.

Made me curious to learn more about the Nutting family and the other people behind Ogden Media.

The story seemed newsworthy to me, one that many of their constituents might want to hear about.  The papers’ non-coverage, therefore, may be newsworthy in its own right.

In addition, the Aspen Times was recently in the national news spotlight for its knuckling under to a Russian oligarch really rich guy, and their self-censoring from any coverage on his purchase of a undeveloped commercial parcel for $76.5 million per acre (purchased totally coincidentally from the cousin of a Supreme Court Justice).

So, anyway, where there’s smoke, wot wot…

Anyway, the Denver Post and the Grand Junction Sentinel papers found space to cover L’affair Boebert.  The local Ogden papers?  Not so much.

    1. Agree with you MM, that the Glenwood and Aspen papers ought to have found the altercation newsworthy. I have dim views of the Dems' chance of winning CD3 due to demographics, but ignoring this story seems a bit like protecting a candidate.

But if a paper won't cover something, folks should try to weigh in with letters to the editor, and document that they were sent in case the papers also don't run the letters!

      1. It seems like a good tactic for local Dem activists to contact the paper informally and figure out where they stand, and then respond accordingly.  The Aspen Times in particular is in an interesting conundrum with blue aspen and its blue local government leadership.  It really needs to explain itself.  Much of the PI's readership is blue and purple as well.  As we know, Boebert didn't even carry her hometown of redneck Rifle, so, the Ogden ownership should have its feet held to the fire to figure out whether it's is a business venture or a propaganda organ.

  2. So, about that alleged ‘red wave’….

LMAO! Stupid, short-sighted, reactionary fools. So predictable. It’s the arrogant, insufferable hubris, the corrupting worship of money and power, the vicious, lustful embrace of hatred, divisiveness and separatism (racism, misogyny, homophobia, bigotry, et al) — and now, their brazen support of violence, sedition and terrorism as political tools — that topples and will continue to topple the GQP every time. (Not to mention their consistently failed economic policies — back in the days, now long gone, when they, you know, actually offered policies.)

Overreach is these presumptuous, condescending grifters’ middle name. They simply cannot control themselves. Clearly they cannot handle power, knowing only how to abuse it for personal and political gain.

Short of a COMPLETE overhaul and restructuring of their radically extreme rightist/fascist/authoritarian party — including first and foremost a comprehensive, permanent purge of every trace of trumpstink — the corrupt, debased, delusional GQP should never be given power again.

    1. The GOP has built its power base around enhancing, enlarging, and exploiting mental illnesses and behavioral dysfunctions and cultivating the worst of human impulses.  Half the nation is in the midst of some sort of manic crisis and paranoid breakdown.  This runs very deep and is quite scary.  Removing Trump will still leave a lost generation adrift, angry, and feeling even more alienated than ever.

      1. Yes, by design, the trump metastasis will indeed continue to sicken and debase parts of our country for a while (the direct result of some Dems and moderate/left-of-center Indies failing to vote, or voting for hopeless alt candidates), and now we’ll all be forced to deal with and protect ourselves from his lemmings’ untreated mental illnesses.

Nevertheless, the primary cancer (trump) MUST be excised from the body politic, at once.

        1. I view Trump as the brain tumor that is spawning other tumors, or whatever the cancer analogy is.  And yes, must be removed from power and influence and sent off to an island somewhere without internet access.  But the sickness is older and deeper. And will remain even after Trump is excised from the system.

  3. DP, when you said about that alleged "Red Wave", I thought you were going to mention the special election in NY last night.  For a vacant D-held US House seat that EVERYBODY, except for the Dem candidate thought the Repugs we're going to flip.  Spoiler, the Dem held that seat 52-48.  A marginal Biden seat a little more than 2 months before E-Day, with a formidable Repug candidate.   And Team Blue hangs on.   The Dem even over performed Biden a little bit.

  4. Crudité Wars Continue (From TPM)

If you’re Mehmet Oz and you’re still talking about crudités, you’re losing.

“If John Fetterman had ever eaten a vegetable in his life, then maybe he wouldn’t have had a major stroke and wouldn’t be in the position of having to lie about it constantly,” Rachel Tripp, Oz’s senior communications advisor, told Insider.

Wow … a crudité reference delicately wrapped inside a stroke joke.

    1. wow.   that's…. something.  I had to goole fact check that one.  Next thing you know he's going to go all Michelle Obama and outlaw Big Gulps.

    2. You notice the lighthearted way Fetterman makes fun of Oz?  And then the completely nasty response really telegraphs their desperation.

I love Fetterman. He's just plain funny as shit.

    3. I think this was a HUGE mistake on Ozzie's team's part. This will get lots of play in Pennsylvania. And, none of it will be complementary.
I also think that most/many voters understand that strokes are not caused by lack of vegetables.

  5. Welcome to the Squint, now that the Squad will have one more member. (Also from TPM)

Maxwell Alejandro Frost, a 25-year-old gun control activist, won the Democratic primary in the FL-10, a heavily Democratic district that he is expected to win in November. Incumbent Rep. Val Demmings (D) won the Democratic nomination to challenge Sen. Marco Rubio (R) and did not seek re-election.

    1. Cue the Curmudgeons! We must bemoan the influence of leftist Democrats, and close the flaps on the Big Tent! Awwww…..too late.

The Squad already had a sixth member in Jamaal Bowman. So it was not only already a "Squint", it was a "Sexad" or a  "Sexy Six"? The addition of Frost will make it a "Septad". Just call them all the Squad, and heed their voices. They're not going away.

More relevantly,  AOC,  Rashida Tlaib, Cori Bush, and  Ilhan Omar recently won their primaries. So did Jamaal Bowman. Ayanna Presley's primary is September 6. So they are likely to keep annoying Democratic curmudgeons and opening policy possibilities for at least another election cycle.

      1. Not sure if that was meant for me, but I'm certainly guilty of an immature joke. Quote me on this – I can deal with many types of political proposals or philosophies, as long as folks can show their work and deal thoughtfully with constructive criticism. It's how good policy debate ought to work.

        1. Nah. I was replying to PH, and predicting the responses of the usual , diligent Squad-bashers. Our great minds both came up with the “Sexad” joke at the same time. It’s almost a shame that Frost will make 7.

Nerdy Latin number jokes aside, I think we should keep calling them the Squad- at least until they are known as the mainstream of the Democratic caucus.

      2. I am super impressed.  After just six years of drum-banging, moon-howling, self-aggrandisement, the squad has now swelled to six members!

        Wow!

That will show the 215 or so Pelosi-Clyburn moderates fighting to save our Democracy who’s boss!

        1. You could also look at the interests of the districts represented by the Squint Hexapod or whatever. They wouldn't get elected if they had Joe Manchin political positions.

            1. Therefore the actual election (where voters choose who represents their interests) takes place in the primary.

For that matter a dead Republican could win CO-03.

  6. So Joe O'Dea went on the Hugh Hewitt Show and complained about Biden forgiving student loan debt, then posted the exchange on Twitter.

The comments are just brutal. And while this may be old news, according to the Durango Herald:

Mile High Station and Ironworks Events Center, another business O’Dea owns shares in, received more than $319,000 in PPP loans over two years. Those loans were forgiven, and helped keep at least 22 employees on the payroll when large events were prohibited, Roday said. O’Dea reported $25,000 in salary from the event center business, of which he serves as president.
