We received a press release from the “Regulate Marijuana” campaign today touting an “endorsement” from Evangelical leader Pat Robertson. From the release:
“We are pleased that Pat Robertson has publicly endorsed Colorado’s initiative to regulate marijuana like alcohol. Mr. Robertson’s statement is especially powerful coming from someone who has been known to make a moral judgment or two in the past. But when it comes right down to it, he is saying what we are saying. Specifically, he pointed out that it makes absolutely no sense to allow people to use alcohol, but punish them for using marijuana.
Full press release after the jump, along with a poll question: Is it really a good idea to tout Pat Robertson’s endorsement?
Evangelical Leader Pat Robertson Endorses Amendment 64 and Regulating Marijuana Like Alcohol
Statement below from Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol
DENVER — The Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol has issued the following statement in response to an interview with evangelical leader Pat Robertson in The New York Times, in which he said that he “absolutely” supports ballot initiatives in Colorado and Washington to regulate marijuana like alcohol. See: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03…
He has also decried the massive amount of money wasted on arresting, prosecuting and imprisoning people for marijuana-related offenses. Brick by brick, the Berlin Wall of marijuana prohibition is crumbling. Pat Robertson hit that wall with a big sledgehammer today. We are happy that he has joined the growing and diverse group of individuals backing Amendment 64.”

In response the recent early tornadic activity in the mid-west Robertson said the people there don’t pray enough.
Yet, Oklahoma has tornado alley clearly those heathens really need to start praying more.
My mom watches The Pat Robertson show every single day. (Yes, it pains me to type that.) We need people like Robertson to speak out for legalizing and decriminalizing marijuana because I guarantee you that pro-legalization supporters do not make up his typical core audience. People like my mom do. And those are the people we need to convince.
This is a solid pick up for Tvert and Co. – they need non-pot smokers to win this and they were just endorsed by a trusted messenger to a section of those people. It’s not like any of the pro-pot people are going to change their minds because Robertson agrees with them.
If I were trying to make marijuana legal I would want everyone to know that people from all walks of life like the idea of legalizing marijuana.
And all this time we thought he was nuts. This points to just a lifetime of inhaling bad weed.
Next thing you know we’ll get an endorsement from JC Himself.
Don’t think Tvert will be highlighting this too much.
But, if you are a misogynistic, liberal hating, right wing religious nutcase that smokes pot – I guess this helps the cause…
So it looks like it is highlighting the endorsement. Robertson will join a list of publicized supporters cited by the campaign, I’d suspect, which no doubt will include other names to come. Kinda like, so far, this–from Westword:
nobody needs his endorsement
