  1. “That’s one of the things that I like about him — because he’s been consistent since he changed his mind.”

    — Christine O’Donnell, quoted by Politico, on her endorsement of Mitt Romney

    (From Politicalwire.com)

  2. Nene all that much.  But losing Afflalo (if it happens)…that’s going to smart.  Why is it we’ve never made a blockbuster deal for a true star center in all theses years when we so clearly can’t win a championship without one? I hope the new bigs pan out so Nene can mostly play big power forward but the guy needs to be way, way more consistently aggressive no matter what position he plays.  His sunny personality makes him loveable but just imagine Nene with Kenyon’s killer instinct and rage to win.

Love getting Andre Miller back and like Rudy Fernandez, though.

Hey, it is an open thread.

    1. You’re right.  Nene’s too soft, and should be a 4 if Mozgov can prove to be an NBA starting center.  Alflalo would be a greater loss, but hopefully they can keep him.

Too band we couldn’t get Billups off waivers, but he still has a big contract.

      1. Can usually count on him for some companionship in this sea of political nerd non-sports fans. Threads obsessing over Tebow and Tebowing vs not Tebowing don’t count. That’s generally Christian Right vs Godless Left politics. At least according to the Christian Right.

For the record, Tebow’s still winning and I see little sign of enemies of Christianity like Fox, Elway and the rest of the NFL plotting to break his legs because they can’t stand to see a Christian succeed. Too busy waging war on Christmas?

I’m with Charles Barkley on this issue: Tebow seems like a good enough kid. Just please can we remove him and his every move from 24/7 coverage?

        1. We’ve both been around long enough to remember the early John Elway years in Denver. What passed for the big sports media back then camped out near his house to interrogate youngsters on Halloween so there could be stories about the kind of candy the Elways gave out.

Tebow stories will be around for a long time. We might as well tune out the religious angle and strap in for the ride.

        2. He disappears in the 4th quarter when the game is on the line.  Maybe God doesn’t appear and have heart-to-hearts chats like he does with Timmy (per an article in the local daily).

          1. playing with the Carmelo because he felt that Carmelo didn’t like to involve him and in a system that revolved around Carmelo that made it really tough for him.  With a new Carmelo-free season, we’ll see if he can be aggressive enough to demand more involvement and come through consistently with passion or if that’s all just an excuse. You get the ball by demanding it and proving you can help the team win with it, not by expecting others, especially others with giant egos (pretty much every top level player) to be “fair” to you.

              1. the 80s we had one TV, not a lot of channels and I kind of had to learn to like basketball.  Much to my surprise I really did like it and have been a Nugget’s fan ever since. I also love my birth place team again, the Bulls, (now that I don’t have to hate them because of Jordan and they’re over the lean years and fun again) and can’t resist the classic Celtics. And various other teams because they have players I’ve learned to love. It’s also always nice to have as many things as possible to enjoy doing with the old man. He doesn’t like the Celtics, though.  Can’t have everything. We do agree on politics, social issues and cats (we prefer them). So many of my liberal women friends are married to aggravating Rs.  Ooof!

                  1. win over and over was only fun if you were living in Chicago during those years.  I wasn’t. I was here. Nothing personal. Kind of like hating Kobe and LA in a different era, though Kobe gave us some other reasons.

  3. U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today unveiled a bill to create a new green card category for foreign students pursuing advanced degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The bill attempts to address the brain drain by reforming the visa system via provisions specifically designed for STEM-pursuant foreign students who are college-bound and those already in college who are here legally on student visas.

So within past 2 mos. Bennet takes away fair wages:work hours for a great number of IT/IS workers than ever before (workers in those same STEM fields) and now he wants to

further enlarge the pool of IT/IS gruntlings by making it easier for undocumented folks & current student Visas to stay & take away more work.

“Foreign college students with an advanced degree in STEM subjects would be eligible for the new STEM green card category, which would allow them to stay and work,” Adam Bozzi, Communications Director for Sen. Bennet tells The Huffington Post.

Tell us again Cowgirl & Phoenix just who benefits, really benefits from these changes?

Companies now have a greater number of exempt employee classifications of who doesn’t deserve overtime for time worked.  An with this bill the have a greater number of candidates in the market for those smaller # of jobs.  And oh yeah, a lot of those incoming IT/IS candidates don’t even need an H1SB visa they’ll get a little dispensation from Prince Bennet & his dollared friends.

And what kind of wage do you think these IT/IS companies will have to pay foreign born STEM-visa workers?  You know a company can pull the H1SB visa from a worker @ any time so they like complacent, docile, barely-trained folks that will work for less than the going rate.

    Here’s Bennet’s Jobs plan:

    – more workers making less pay

    – more undocumented students into STEM programs

    – more foreign born gradson visas to fill IT/IS jobs

    – further erosion of US middle class

all this to help the US brain drain?  Yeah, right …

Bennet’s focus on jobs as bad as the GOP’s.  But shoosh y’all, no speaking bad about the annointed Prince. Try getting any answers out of his office.  He as bad about answering constituents as our GOP reps.  WTF?  Guess this is what we get when the old boys make our decisions.

    1. It’s not perfect (what is) but it is overall a good thing. We have a gigantic shortage of people in these categories. They’re not taking jobs from others, they will be taking jobs that are presently empty.

And keep in mind something like 1/3 of high tech startups are founded by immigrants. This group will be net job creators.

      1. I’m somewhat familiar with the situation at least in the IT industry, and the shortage doesn’t seem to be in entry-level (or even college graduate) candidates – it seems much more concentrated in the area of experienced IT professionals.

The program proposed by Bennet wouldn’t solve this issue.

        1. Our CEO was at a local hi-tech CEO meeting yesterday and one of the biggest complaints was they can’t find entry level programmers. A giant chunk of them are starting their own companies, which is a good thing. But it leaves companies with a lot of job openings.

          1. Why don’t you raise the fucking wages and benefits you offer people to work for you instead of whining about not being able to attract qualified employees to your fucking company?

            1. The pay and benefits at hi-tech companies (including mine) are quite good. The problem is just that there are a lot more openings than qualified applicants.

BTW – name another industry that comes close to the average pay and benefit levels that software companies pay.

              1. You just acknowledged:

A giant chunk of them are starting their own companies,

So obviously there are qualified people, but you’re just not offering them enough compensation to lure them away from their other options.

This is a total red herring:

BTW – name another industry that comes close to the average pay and benefit levels that software companies pay.

The issue is your company’s failure to attract qualified applicants within the industry.

(And by the way, I for one would hesitate to work for anyone in a tech field who doesn’t understand that people need to know geometry in order to perform trigonometry.)

                1. Which I know everyone else has pointed out. People who start their own company make less pay than they do working elsewhere. I make less than I could working elsewhere. You don’t start your own company for the pay.

                  1. Potential hires make these decisions based not just on a comparison of the values of the two options in the immediate term, but also on their expectation of the present value of future earnings. Obviously, most startups don’t turn a profit in the first year. But what the market is telling you (which you’re not comprehending) is that these qualified people are concluding that the compensation you’re offering in the immediate term — combined with a projection of that level of compensation for several years — is inferior to the compensation they can create for themselves by starting their own businesses.

          2. Why don’t you increase the fucking wages and benefits you’re offering potential employees instead of whining about how unfair it is that qualified people don’t want to work for you?

          3. A single click now generates a quintuple posting. Way to go, SoapBlox.

I wonder how many times this one will post.

Hey, Aristotle, in advance: Fuck you, you snotty-nosed little dweeb.

    2. I suggest that you pull several thousand highly intelligent college graduates with STEM degrees out of the same part of your ass where you got your analysis of Bennet’s proposal.

      1. Where the heck would we have been both during WWII and for decades beyond without all those German and other European scientists fleeing the Nazis?  We’ve kind of been in the habit of importing that kind of talent for a long time. Somehow I doubt that introducing anti-science pro-intelligent design religious propaganda and prayer in school while putting higher education out of financial reach for most, both popular GOTP base policies, is going to be the solution to producing more home grown talent.

  4. is coming out of “the Guvs’ ” ears as they struggle to come up with a remotely credible way to walk back their it’s-too-late-for-anyone-but-Miklosi-in-CD6 propaganda so they can push for Brandon Shaffer’s switch to that race.

They’ve probably already come up with the first half of it: “Well, you see, Romanoff would have been starting from scratch, but Shaffer already has a campaign and some funding in place. yadda-yadda.” But what they haven’t figured out is how to rationalize creating the hole in the CD4 race that would have to be filled by some other Dem schmuck starting a campaign from scratch at this stage.

Every day that passes makes it harder and harder for you and your crony Craig Hughes to pull this off, Pols. You’re probably leaning toward: “Oh well, CD4 is a lost cause anyway.” You should probably just go with that ASAP, because you’re not going to come up with anything better.

      1. 2 bags of milk chocolate chips

1 bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips

        1 stick of butter

2 cans (14 oz. each) sweetened condensed milk

Dump all into a bowl and microwave, stirring occasionally, until everything is melted.  Takes about 4-5 minutes in my microwave; I stir every 90 seconds or so.

Add 3 cups chopped walnuts.  Put into a 13×9 cake pan (lined with foil for easy removal) and refrigerate until you can’t stand it any more, then take it out of the fridge and out of the pan, cut, eat, eat, eat.  Merry Christmas!

    1. ASSHOLES !  You and your fucking, your fucking CRONIES and PROPAGANDA and all sorts of other stuff !

REALLY ?  Then why is my coffee cold, POLS ! What the hell did you do with it ?  Come out from behind your electronic curtain and tell me POLS !

      Whew Michael, that was awesome.

      1. as part of his Kenyan anti-colonialist agenda!

Pols had nothing to do with it.  Pols, on the other hand, has to take full responsibility for Michael’s car not starting this morning.

  5. is coming out of “the Guvs’ ” ears as they struggle to come up with a remotely credible way to walk back their it’s-too-late-for-anyone-but-Miklosi-in-CD6 propaganda so they can push for Brandon Shaffer’s switch to that race.

    1. a single word of this blather? Show us where pols is stuggling to come up with anything remotely resembling what you are carrying on about? And provide links, please.

You and ArapG are made for each other.

          1. he’s only doing that now because Michael is right . . . it’s all part of the Pols/Schaffer/Hughes/Trafalmadoran plot . . . little ploys to discredit Michael’s message publicly, all the while focusing attention away from what is actually happening?

Ohhhhh, aha, you’re playing your part admirably, PR.

        1. You claim Pols is, right now, struggling to

come up with a remotely credible way to walk back their it’s-too-late-for-anyone-but-Miklosi-in-CD6 propaganda so they can push for Brandon Shaffer’s switch to that race.

Why can’t you, right now, produce evidence that pols is doing anything of the kind? And if you can’t, what makes you think they are? Right now. And remember none of this can be proved or disproved by anything Shaffer or the Dem party or anyone else does in the stay tuned future.  This is specifically about what you claim Pols, not Shaffer is thinking and planning now.

Replace that stay tuned with at least one solid piece of evidence today or admit you just made it up and go play with your through the looking glass soul mate, ArapG.

            1. is being pushed by MichaelEllis as the alternative to Joe Mikloski in CD-6.  (I dunno though, . . . a little too ethnic, and a lot too bald.)

Evidence?  Just keep your aluminum foil antennae tuned.

  6. Just heard Paul Ryan and Ron Wyden are set to announce a new proposal for Medicare starting in 2022.  It combines the scariest words for both ‘pubs and Dems — Vouchers and Public Option.

Working with Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden (Ore.), the Wisconsin Republican is developing a framework that would keep government-run Medicare as an option for new retirees starting in 2022, along with a variety of private plans.

But the value of the vouchers would rise faster than inflation (but not as fast as medical inflation, presumably).

… by forcing private insurers to bid to provide Medicare coverage and encouraging beneficiaries to choose the plan with the lowest costs, the measure could drive costs down lower than the price controls that the current law would impose on the private sector.

That kinda sounds like what we Dems said the Public Option would do.

So maybe the next shoe dropping would be to lower the age requirement on Medicare so that everyone can get low cost, efficient medical care instead of being forced into the “For Profit” only market.

    1. Insurance companies don’t want to insure  the Medicare demographic.

When they see the  margin that CMMS achieves, they start looking for 20 somethings with jobs to insure.

Ryan’s plan for Medicare vouchers has a great alternative name: death panel by bid.

      1. They don’t even plan to offer any legislation this year.

Once the 2012 elections are over and we know the makeup of Congress, then the real proposals will be debated.

I have no idea why Wyden is doing this, but thought it was interesting to think about.
