    Manchin worried about inflation and Biden agenda
     
    Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., says he wants the Senate to pass the massive Build Back Better bill by the end of the month. The roughly $2 trillion measure contains President Biden’s climate and domestic spending priorities. But Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., is still raising concerns about the impact of the bill on inflation. 
     
    “I heard an awful lot over the Thanksgiving break that the prices were high, and people were very much upset about that, and they're concerned about whether inflation is going to get worse,” Manchin told reporters. 
     
    White House advisers met with Schumer’s staff on Sunday night to discuss the legislation. “I can assure you we are moving forward full speed to get this done, and we expect action on it in the coming weeks,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters Monday.

        1. There you go blaming sailors. The correct answer is supply and labor cost. 

          If only those greedy consumers would do without food and fuel everything would be fine.

          1. You are claiming to see a "wage price spiral"? The bond markets don't seem to notice inflation as an issue.

            The present economy is recovering from a huge disruption due to a world-wide epidemic. Maybe you have heard of it; or maybe not.

            Last year prices went down, this year they are recovering. Certain supply chains have been disrupted and are now resolving, for example lumber. Getting rid of Trump's import taxes would lower prices for a bunch of primary goods like Canadian steel.

            Container ships are unloading at a rapid clip thanks to Biden's $100/day storage penalty!

            1. I’m about to raise wages for my employees $1000 per month. That would make my drivers at $90,000 annually. Labor supply cost is spiraling up,  maybe you have heard there is a labor shortage. I have already downsized my company to reduce overhead cost. If I can add an employee that will pay for the increased labor cost. Perhaps I will get lucky and get two employees which my contribute to marginal profit.

              As long as China shuts down cities to combat Covid and all the variants supply will not improve. 

              You should consider looking at other news sources, container  ships Are not being unloaded at a rapid clip.

              The stock and bond market is an electronic casino. Believe them at your own risk.

              2. Salary, or by the mile?  Net of expenses, or gross? . . . 

                . . . Perhaps it’s time you consider selling that company before you run it completely into the ground and it still has some value?  Find someone who cares about, and uses their time and will give their attention to understand the running of the business a little maybe? . . .

                . . . You could relax and give your full attention to those priorities you really care about without all those silly interruptions of work.  Find a hobby — finally finish learning the alphabet, maybe?  Run for office (again, and again, again, and again).  Watch even more FOX!  Volunteer more at your klavern?

      3. The current inflation pressure is, in large measure, is from Americans spending like drunken sailors. Corporations are taking advantage…particularly the Oily Boyz.

        1. You can just imagine how pissed Uncle Joe is when he pulls his Maserati up to the pumps and fills it up with $5 petro, or when he backs his yacht, Almost Heaven, up to the dock to fill its bowels with go juice. 

          It’s almost like he has no clue  has no interest in going to rehab to cure his Kochaine addiction. 

      5. Inflation is temporary, dipshit.  And this country's paranoia about inflation ignores the bigger problem of potential deflation.  But keep drinking the trickle down kool-aid

        PP, you are so worried about inflation. It depends on what is causing the inflation.

        If it is OPEC shutting down oil fields, then we shift to electric cars, and violins! no more inflation from a supply crunch.

        If we have an over-heated economy, then it is time for the Federal Reserve to act – Raise interest rates to 10%, to shut down the home purchases, and big violin! No more hot-economy.

        If the inflation is caused by deficit spending, remove the Republican tax breaks and viola – no more deficit! 

        Or maybe the concern is merely a propaganda campaign against Biden. In that case, shut off Steve Bannon, and now we have a bass viol.

    2. Corporate Democrat Manchin is like a broken AI Program.

      (Apologies for posting such a long quote. It's from a Talking Points Memo newsletter by John Light.)

      Back in 2017, [Boulder] research scientist Janelle Shane fed a neural network 7,700 Sherwin-Williams paint colors. She then asked the artificial intelligence to use what it could deduce from those colors to generate some new names for paints.

      It sort of worked. Sort of.

      The color names weren't very good, to say the least. And sometimes the neural network identified the wrong color. "Caring Tan," for instance — one of the weirdly evocative names it came up with — is a kind of gray. 

      …

      Sometimes when Joe Manchin speaks, I think about this experiment. It can sound like someone took a bunch of speeches from a 1990s Democratic centrist, fed them into an AI, and then handed the resulting output to the West Virginia senator to read.

      During the process of negotiating the reconciliation package, we've heard from Manchin concerns about an "entitlement society," a desire for "work requirements," and worries about Medicare insolvency.

      Where the AI seems to go awry is that Manchin sometimes brings these things up as reasons to put the breaks on completely unrelated policies. The Washington Post, for instance, reported that he floated attaching work requirements to paid leave, though presumably those who take paid leave would already be working at a job … from which they would take leave. That's kind of the whole point of the program.

      We're seeing this pattern play out at the moment, on a grand scale, with fears about inflation. Prices are rising. The data is nowhere near comparable to earlier inflationary periods — think the 1970s — but it's a real issue, largely driven by supply chain disruptions and the lingering pandemic.

      But Manchin appears to be gearing up to cite inflation as a reason to put the breaks on President Joe Biden's Build Back Better reconciliation package. These things, economists assured TPM this week, have nothing to do with each other. The Build Back Better plan would not worsen inflation; in fact, it might alleviate it while also dampening its impacts. Top economists have said so again and again and again. But such details are outside the purview of the '90s centrist algorithm that writes Joe Manchin's public remarks. (My colleague Kate Riga has the definitive piece on this, which you should go read.)

  3. I'm gobsmacked, but apparently Heidi Ganahl ducks media questions about election integrity and then says something completely different in other venues!

    "[President] Trump took them off guard. He won by such a big margin, that there was no way that they could make it — fix, fix it, right? We've got to do that again in Colorado. We've got to have such a red tsunami, that there's no question, there's no fixing it," Ganahl said in the audio recorded at a Durango Meet and Greet on Nov. 18.

  4. This is either intentional "anti-intellectual" signaling where people jump on it, making fun, and the persecution complex they are nurturing just gets deeper (intended audience syndrome) … or it's middle school recess?

      Kevin McCarthy should be so luck as to have that simple problem. He's got a bunch of rabid dogs crapping all over the floor while pretending nothing's wrong.

        With all this *issin’ goin’ on there’s about to be a flood about to run through McCarthy’s tent. 
         

    1. Not to mention that human milk would be bad for the cat. Our vet told me that cat milk is not nearly as high in sugars as human milk. It's extremely high in protein, so not sweet at all. No wonder it wasn't working.
