Labor New Media BootCamp

Ends Dec. 10, 2011, noon
Location: Washington DC Area
The past year has been more crucial than ever in the fight for fair jobs and a fair economy. In states like Wisconsin and Ohio workers organized to stand up for their rights. More and more states and workers are facing similar circumstances. We know the fight isn’t over, and we know there is a need to share the message now more than ever. Organized workers in all industries are facing huge challenges, both at the bargaining table and in the state legislatures.
Labor organizers on the ground need to be armed with the tools and knowledge available in order to successfully organize. That’s why, this year, we’ve created a training specifically tailored to teach union members effective online organizing strategies.
The New Organizing Institute has been a leader in new media trainings for the past six years. Our training alumni have gone on to play leadership roles across the progressive movement including labor, electoral and issue based fights all over the country. Topics covered throughout the six day training will include-
Creating and managing effective online campaigns
Basic web skills
Blog outreach
Email list building and management
Online Ads
Mobile Campaign Strategies
Organizers learn more than just the basics of HTML, but rather how to frame your message in order to compel people to take action. Labor organizers face a unique challenge in their member-to-member organizing and political organizing, and using new media can help with doing both effectively in the modern campaign landscape.
Cost and Process
The cost for this course is $1,500 per person, and includes lodging and meals through the training. Participants are responsible for travel costs and travel arrangements. Limited scholarships are available, and preference will be given to persons currently unemployed who wish to seek work in Labor organizing.
