August 28, 1898 — Caleb Bradham's beverage "Brad's Drink" is renamed "Pepsi-Cola".
Who gives a burp?
In the same vein as the societal costs of coal-fired power's negative externalities, we all pay the high cost of cheap sugar through our health insurance premiums.
Now that our two-decade mission is over, I'm stuck wondering what that mission was?
. . . What I do think I know is this: Some day, in the not too distant future (another ten years maybe), there's gonna' be another Ronald Reagan. (I know, sucks horseshoes, but . . .) And, given the arc of the Republican party over the past half century, there's no doubt that the next RR will be exponentially more lunatic than even the original — imagine that?!
Anyway, if I were a small Caribbean island nation right now, I'd be keeping my nose extra clean . . .
. . . Americans know where you're at, and how to find you, Grenada! — well, some do anyway . . . in general, sorta. Tick-tock . . .
You left out Bill Clinton and Somalia.
I guess “sucks horseshoes” gets you sentenced to an undetermined term of re-education in Alva’s moderation gulag?
. . . “I’m sorry, comrade. Yes, I do agree, John Hickenlooper is 100% adorable! . . . OK, 110%! — you’re so right!”
"John Hickenlooper is INFINITELY adorable! John Hickenlooper is INFINITELY adorable!! John Hickenlooper is INFINITELY adorable!!!! . . ."
(See?!!! That snippet of steamy Hickenporn didn’t get me stuck in no horseshoe-sucking moderation gulag . . .)
Dio, daveb has powers of moderation, if none are exercised against his compulsion to trivialize the day’s political news with commemorations of inanities.
Some comments are showing up in the “recent comments” sidebar, but not on the Weekend Open Thread page; even though it says there are 4 comments, only dave’s usual pfft post and V’s response are visible.
I replied to barnes and it shows up in my feed with the notation: Your comment is awaiting moderation.
Don't worry, Michael. I can take it.
🤣 it’s actually a jeremiad about Pepsi-Cola and our cheap sugar policies!!
Good to know that you oppose sugar price supports.
Sugar price supports, and tariffs, are in place at the behest of the sugar magnates. They want to keep out cheaper cane based sugar from Brazil.
Those same magnates also drive our insane Cuba policy.
Our "insane Cubs policy?" Did you mean " Cuba", Michael? Or has the Sugar Trust corrupted baseball as well?
Cubs=Wrigley=sugar. So, yes
🤣🤣 (fixed!)
No — No — No!
That should be: Cardinals=Busch Stadium=s-w-e-e-t!!!
Gotta love the NL Central, and its one mini-powerhouse (hint: from Wisconsin). Meanwhile, in the big league of the NL West . . . .
I was waiting for a reference to the designated hitter rule.
The neo-Hitlerite, pro-Trump, designated hitter rule is banished from the National League in 2021, though it still befouls the UnAmerican League. But the scourge could become universal in 2022.
"insane Cuba policy….." The magnates and the far right wing Cuban refugee community in Florida helped to prop up the Castro dictatorship for decades with their undying enmity. An emphasis by the US on helping Cubans economically and via education would have eventually doomed the dictatorship.
Certainly, we could have been more visible after the fall of Cuba's main supporter, the Soviet Union, in 1991. But both US political parties sucked up to the Cuban-American vote in Florida.
The American Mafia also lost big when the Castro brothers took over.
^^^this^^^
Are (were) there really so many of those old Castro-hating Cubanos to make such a difference that both parties were terrified of them? It was another case of "You guys are going about this all wrong".
In a state where the question “Free ice cream” or “kick in the face” would yield a 49.9 – 50.1 outcome 9 times out of 10, the answer is yes 🤣
Dave’s got teh Google now!
. . . Better watch out, world! Stand back and prepare yourselves to be thoroughly amazed . . .
Good day …
Mesa County continues to be mentioned — this time, in conjunction to stories about what is at risk due to Mike Lindell & associates releasing material gained from fraudits and Tina Peters and her office.
AP: CHRISTINA A. CASSIDY, "Experts warn of dangers from breach of voter system software"
Unfortunately for Mr. Pillow he won’t be able to use Ttimpy’s favorite legal maneuver, bankruptcy, to shield his assets from a criminal action (and Ttumpy won’t give two schitts if Mr Pillow is sleeping under a bridge when this is over).
Time for Dominion Software to unload on Lindell and Peters. They deserve to be sued into bankruptcy.
Dominion Software already has a suit naming Lindell.
I'm betting they won't go after a one-time county clerk when they have UNREAL people (aka corporations) and REAL people with deep pockets to go for first.
I want to see the comparisons of Republicans outraged about the deaths in Afghanistan versus their response to Sandy Hook or the other mass shootings in the US.
IOKIYTT!
. . . their Taliban.
There aren’t any comparisons. Alex Jones from InfoWars said Sandy Hook was a “made up fantasy,” or something like that.
I was trying to get at the hypocrisy of Republicans all distraught over the 13 American deaths in Kabul and their indifference to the mass murders that routinely happen in the US. Those Marines were doing their jobs in a dangerous place. The children in Sandy Hook were as innocent and vulnerable as a human being could be. And then there are the preventable deaths from COVID that they whistle right past.
My party has its definite lack of quality, true patriotic, leaders these days. Unfortunately, the Dems are trying to get rid of one of the best Republicans of today, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL). Illinois is due to lose a congressional seat with the redistricting and the Dems are targeting his seat.
We need to take them where we can, CHB. We need to offset what is going to happen to Democratic seats in Texas and Florida.
Hell, if it were up to me, we'd draw six Democratic and two Republican seats for the Colorado delegation but alas it is up to the so-called independent commission.
I agree that Adam Kinzinger is far and away one of the more honorable and decent Republicans left. Here's hoping he moves to a different district with a Trumpian incumbent he can take on in a primary. Or runs for governor of Illinois.
The Pulse massacre never happened, either: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/29/us/after-orlando-shooting-false-flag-and-crisis-actor-conspiracy-theories-surface.html
Here's a question to ponder: Might Alex Jones simply be a hoax that never existed?
How about we should start naming hurricanes after oil companies to spotlight their contributions to climate change? Who doesn’t think Ttumpy and the GOP aren’t in a back room right now trying to figure out how to fundraise off of Ida?
#ExxonKnew
We're going to move the goal posts all the way to heaven, y'all! (and it's a great way to cover up incompetence).
Since, according to the governor of Mississippi, the people of the Deep South believe that, then why do they need guns for protection?
Add “vaccinations against COVID” to this list…
And no, not all Republicans fear these things…just those in leadership, apparently.
A very good question.
In fact, doesn't self-defense, nutrition, medical care, etc. all serve to frustrate God's efforts to call the faithful home?
That's the best suggestion I've heard all week on any topic.
I was replying to the hurricane suggestion, why do these end up under the goober from Miss.?
August 29, 1831: Electromagnetic induction is discovered by Michael Faraday.
So, Watt?
Too little, too late.
Why $rump finally urged people to get vaccinated.
(hint: it’s “his people” that were and are dying).
I wrote a reply about this a month or more ago. Yammie-Pie did nothing while it was ravaging cities. Like the opium epidemic, he figured it would kill poor people and people of color. Republicans never seem to figure out that epidemics, natural or human-caused never stay where they originate.
He FINALLY figured that out?
This is one of the more amazing aspects of Trumpism.
Putting aside any questions about the morality of doing so, it's one thing to encourage your opponents to kill themselves but WTF is the rationale for encouraging your supporters to do themselves in?
. . . to prove their fealty.
. . . and to make an example for the benefit of the other supporters.
another one bites the dust…….
3rd conservative radio host who condemned vaccines dies of CovidPOLITICOSearchSearchClose
So three things to end the weekend:
1: thoughts and prayers for Louisiana (and that Ttumpy won’t be flying in next week to toss paper towels to the dislocated)
2: DeSantis COS resigned this afternoon amidst a media hurricane blitz. Nothing to see here.
3: #CodeMonkeyZ y’all!! Thanks to Tina we’ve busted the nut! (the source is totally legit).
