    1. dave…have you seen Tina? She seems to have shacked up with her Pillow Guy, but we miss her so much.

If you see her, tell her to phone home…thanks, dave.

      1. Whadaya’ s’pose guys in their 70s would possibly be doing in the wee, wee hours of the morning, other than urgently searching for Peters?? . . .

        1. Geez, Dio. Our elections and our subsequent freedom from liberal tyranee are at risk and how can we go on without our trusted FOJ (friend of Janet) to protect us. What could be more important?

          1. I’m just sayin’ there’s likely an entire army of unnamed and unheralded patriots of a certain age; men admittedly well past their prime , but wanting to prove to the functioning world that they still have some small something remaining to give; men who are doing their very best on a daily nightly basis, ever struggling to contribute their small bits and dribbles in the search and recovery of Peters?

                1. It’s pretty far down ,alright. But the Peters joke has gone limp and won’t stand up on its own.  Must be nothing of importance happening in politics.

                  1. First rule of writing, write about what you know best . . .

. . . for example: Yogi writes about nothing in particular (other than his generally not caring about stuff others have concern about, and some random slurs). Contrast that with CHB — he usually writes about music, the outdoors, or he writes about the lunatic Republicans from days gone past who have brought us to today’s mindless insanity . . .

. . . it’s easy to criticize when you’re not the one shouldering the burden.

Maybe you should drag yourself up a little earlier, and post your preferred alternative to be expanded away from Yogi bore? . . .

                     wink

                    1. Well, here's what's on my mind:

Malala: I Survived the Taliban. I Fear for My Afghan Sisters.

Malala does have some suggestions for action, for those who can't get behind the NYT paywall.

Regional powers should be actively assisting in the protection of women and children. Neighboring countries — China, Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan — must open their doors to fleeing civilians. That will save lives and help stabilize the region. They must also allow refugee children to enroll in local schools and humanitarian organizations to set up temporary learning centers in camps and settlements.

Looking to Afghanistan’s future, another activist wants the Taliban to be specific about what they will allow: “It is not enough to vaguely say, ‘Girls can go to school.’ We need specific agreements that girls can complete their education, can study science and math, can go to university and be allowed to join the work force and do jobs they choose.” The activists I spoke with feared a return to religious-only education, which would leave children without the skills they need to achieve their dreams and their country without doctors, engineers and scientists in the future.

                    2. (sorry- no Reply left for your post, kwt)

"Regional powers should be actively assisting in the protection of women and children. Neighboring countries …"

There are numerous places where women are treated poorly.

In some of those places the USA could arguably be the "regional power." Even for all practical purposes the USA would be the neighbor who would be morally and ethically obligated to act accordingly.

In other places, other countries would be the regional power or neighbor. What she is brilliantly advocating for is a new world that none of us has ever lived in.

I am not the guy who is going to say she is implausibly unrealistic. Foolishly naive.  I aspire to her level of awareness and optimism.

But she is calling on China, Pakistan and other regional countries who do not have a great track record on human rights. Here in the USA most of the population supports closing the southern border… all the way to Panama. A place the old USA modernized the 19th c way- we Americanized.

But what about the rest of the hemisphere? the triangle? and etc.  What about the ROTW where we are not the regional powerful neighbor? I suppose I still admire her aspiration. But I wonder if it is really possible.

                    3. "lunatic Republicans from days gone past…….."

Then there is AOC and the Squad with their plans to create millions of government jobs, at a time when there are millions of job openings going unfilled.

Kevin Williamson, who writes in the National Review, and President Biden, are on the same page of the playbook. Both advocate that the way to fill unfilled job openings is to pay more money.

                    1. enlightened  New product for Colorado’s flagging cannabis market:

How about, THC edibles with viagra? . . .

. . . “Expand your mind, and your brain!”

                  2. FWIW, kwtree. My mind has never been on the pee pee joke. My only concern is the swift return of the patriot who promised to protect our votes and our freedoms. Besides..she gets the Peter joke from her husband.

                    1. Isn't she the poster child for the #PeterPrinciple? She rose to her level of incompetence then bolted. She could have been Congresswoman Senator Governor! Now she may have to settle for 'inmate'.

                    2. My preferences for pinned post of the weekend:

                      1. News posting:  politically current, thoughtfully commented on, preferably with an action step.

                      2. Vintage music and reminiscences about the Good Old Days of the Republican Party.

                      3. Dick jokes punning on the name of a voter suppressor who is MIA.

                      4. Today is ____(something inane) Day

Failing to post the first one myself, as Dio pointed out, and ignoring the 2nd and 4th as usual, that left me riffing on your dick jokes. S’all good.

                    3. My apologies for not being clearer . . .

. . . it’s not about racing on any day to be the first post, that’s just crazy (and, besides, that gives early morning failing bladders a huge unfair advantage) . . .

. . . it’s about taking away and ignoring those inane “today” threads, whenever they appear.

                      (h/t Itolduso)

                    4. For me, my excuse is my tendency to arise at 6:00AM, or earlier. Sometimes I get bored.🙃

  1. R.I.P. : Tom T. Hall, country music song writing legend has passed at age 85.

He wrote such greats as Harper Valley P.T.A., Ode to a Switchblade, Ode to a Pound of Ground Round, The Year that Clayton Delaney Died, and hundreds of other country & bluegrass songs.

      1. Thanks, Michael. I was humming “Clayton Delaney” to myself just a few weeks ago. I may still have Tom T’s greatest hits somewhere, on vinyl.

  2. MAGA CULT: “We don’t like to be told what we can and cannot have on us. Freedom, y’all!

TRUMP RALLY: “Here are 43 things you are NOT allowed to have on you.”

    MAGA CULT: “Cool! Yeah, freedom!

    #TrumpRallyAlabama #SuperSpreader

Maybe someone can explain to me why Magas bring a toaster to these events?!?

    1. Maybe in this case we go back to the Reagan days and somebody in ‘Bama just says NO?

Trump to stage Alabama rally as state struggles with Covid surge

Donald Trump was due to stage a rally in Alabama on Saturday night, in a city that has declared a Covid emergency and in support of a congressman who both backed Trump’s attempt to overturn the election and this week sympathised with a man who threatened to blow up the US Capitol.

The former president will speak in Cullman, Alabama, in part in support of Mo Brooks’ bid for a US Senate seat.

      1. That's right. Shelby's retiring, isn't he? Well, if the MAGAts keep going to those rallies, they might reduce their numbers enough to give the Dem candidate a shot at it.

        1. Unlikely…..the only thing that gets Dems elected in Alabama is if the GOP candidate has a history of prowling around shopping malls trying to pick up teenage girls. And even them, it's a close race.

    2. The Q-sters have finally convinced Ttump’s minions that massive consumption of Eggo waffles is essential to preserving the purity of their precious bodily fluids ??? . . .

      1. If you gathered up all of the firing neurons in that crowd I don’t think you could warm up a single Eggo!

The only way to stop a bad man with a toaster is a good man with a toaster?!?

Maybe they can harness some of the energy Mother Nature is displaying at the rally right now and they can power all of the toasters!

    3. "Maybe someone can explain to me why Magas bring a toaster to these events?!?"

Because it's easier than towing the washing machine off the front porch and over to the event.

      1. There likely aren’t many people around who would appreciate that comment, R & R.

On my late mother’s side of the immediate family, I’m in the first generation that was born into indoor plumbing. I had an aunt and uncle in southern Indiana who didn’t have indoor plumbing in their house until the early 1970s. My maternal grandmother had put plumbing in. But if there was a line, the outhouse was always available.

        1. My maternal grandparents didn’t have indoor plumbing until they sold their Minnesota dairy farm in 1965 and retired to a lake house. They raised 13 kids in that two-story farmhouse with only a hand pump in the kitchen for water.  As a kid I thought that farm was better than Disneyland. It makes me laugh when I hear some of the complaints from youngsters these days.

          1. An old story from my childhood:

Two men in a two-seat outhouse, when one man stands to go. When he does, a couple of quarters fall from his pocket, down into the pit. He stops..reaches in his pocket and takes out a twenty dollar bill and throws it down the hole.

The other man, incredulous, says,  "Why in Hell did you do that? The first man replies, "Well, you don't think I am going in there for a measly 50 cents, do you?

      2. Maybe they can hold their toaster plugs to the sky and catch some of that free energy from Mother Nature. If the Delta variant doesn’t get them, the Darwin variant will?

    4. maybe they bring toasters because the microwaves are too bulky?  And the gas camping / BBQ ranges are outside in the back of the pickup trucks.

the old joke — think of the average MAGA person — then realize, half of them are less than that average.

    1. It Rained at the Summit of Greenland. That’s Never Happened Before.

Something extraordinary happened last Saturday at the frigid high point of the Greenland ice sheet, two miles in the sky and more than 500 miles above the Arctic Circle: It rained for the first time.

The rain at a research station — not just a few drops or a drizzle but a stream for several hours, as temperatures rose slightly above freezing — is yet another troubling sign of a changing Arctic, which is warming faster than any other region on the planet.

      https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/20/climate/greenland-rain-ice-sheet.html

      1. NOT "…same as it ever was…"

Ice melt, ocean currents like AMOC weaken or are otherwise altered, bees and pollinators threatened, water levels rise, cliamte changes, and all manner of other changes impact the planet.

But still, we need to lock up HRC, and find that other guy's birth certificate, and, and, and.

My thoughts and prayers for whomever wants them.

  3. I guess this sorta’ must be like winning the Ttumper Freedumb lottery?? . . .

Phil Valentine, a prominent conservative radio host in Tennessee who refused to get vaccinated, then urged his followers to get a shot after being hospitalized with Covid-19, has died, his station said on Saturday.

Mr. Valentine scoffed at the need for vaccines, writing on his blog that his chances of dying from the virus, should he become infected, were “way less than one percent.”

He announced his Covid-19 diagnosis on July 11 and pledged to return to his show within a day or two.

“Unfortunately for the haters out there, it looks like I’m going to make it,” he wrote. “Interesting experience. I’ll have to fill you in when I come back on the air. I’m hoping that will be tomorrow, but I may take a day off just as a precaution.”

    https://www.nytimes.com/live/2021/08/22/world/covid-delta-variant-vaccine#phil-valentine-dies-covid

. . . Filing this one under: “Liberty, freedumb, and dead tired from all that winning”

  4. Look who got married this weekend……

Rep. Matt Gaetz elopes, marries girlfriend in California (msn.com)

And the bride is Ginger Luckey (you can't make that name up) and is older than you might have expected (26).

Regrettably, Joel Greenberg did not serve as Best Man. And there is no truth to the rumors that Marjorie Taylor Greene sang "Oh Promise Me."

But a former staffer of Rand Paul officiated.

I wonder if Ms. Luckey will wait for him after Joel Greenberg sings to the prosecutors and Gaetz gets locked up……

    1. lol Roethlisberger marriage.

Between that and the wingut virus mutating beyond the old incontinent fat guy's laughably limited ability to control, that was a big weekend for the Master Race.
