  1. Great quote today, Pols. Still 89%  (23/26 possible ) dead white guys quoted in July, though. June was slightly better, with five non-white male voices represented.
Do you really imagine that dead white males are the only or main source of political wisdom?
The future of our planet and of worldwide democracy depend on leadership from non-traditional sources, as well as the established ones.
Please make the Daily Quotes more representative of contemporary wisdom.

      1. Just in case Fluffy’s actually doing his job this morning and hasn’t yet read the communique from headquarters:

If he sends him enough money maybe he can get a Trump University Masters diploma and move up on the civilian pay scale.

    1. Absolutely, we must have a rigid quota system on the daily quote.  Quotas for quotes.  Cue Ride of the Valkyries, written by a lesbian African …. Oh, wait.

      1. No rigid quotas requested- just a bit closer to actual real world proportion than 1 in 10. ( or less).

Anyway, a fairly rigid quote quota exists currently- quotes from women and people of color seldom have exceeded 10% of daily quotes in 8 years I’ve been reading this blog. In two recent months, it got up to 25%. So that unwritten rule rules., apparently.
Exceptions to the rule are rare enough that it’s easy to track with a note on icalendar.

As always, thanks for so clearly articulating the knee-jerk reactionary point of view.

          1. Never. Where / when did I ever write that? In your dreams? Citation please. There were and are plenty of good white males around , and many of them had worthwhile political/ life wisdom. I’m a fan of Sartre, Weisel, Wilde, Whitman, Thoreau,  Carlin, etc – plenty of dead white guys had important things to say. Including Rousseau, whose quote today is perfect for you to reflect on.

Pols could still promote dead white male ideas….just not 90% of the time.

This small step of making the daily quotes not 90%, but maybe 50%, white males would be a good step to diversifying the sources of wisdom we look to to start our day on Pols.  It might take a minute longer to find a quote on a given topic, but it would make Pols less of an old boys club.

Of course, you used the term “sweetie” to me to be as offensively patronizing and sexist as possible. Mission accomplished. Feel better now?

            1. Oh, I could do a lot better than sweetie if  I wanted to trigger your Ride of the Valkyries speech.  But you’d probably have a stroke and that would take the fun out.

Tee hee, the “Dead white male” thing is parody in itself.  You’r e just mad because I know more about Rosa Luxemburg than you dowink

    1. Absolutely…..and there will be different tiers. You can get the Trump gold card for donating more, and the platinum card if you donate the most.

    2. I read that for all of his many failures – business, personal, political – the one thing that Trump might reasonably be able to claim expertise in is branding. His stupid name had value, even before his presidency. But now we have the incredible dichotomy. Is there now, or has there ever been, a brand that is so loathed by such a large percentage of people (absolutely would not be caught dead associating with it), and adored by others (buying Trump swag and carrying cards).

The closest I can come up with is sports fandom – Dallas Cowboys, Raiders, Yankees.

      1. Branding is different in business and politics.

If 90 percent of the people hate my beer and ten percent love it, then I get very rich with 10 percent of a beer market where there are numerous sellers.

In politics, there are usually only two sellers and you need a majority (or at least a plurality.). If 60 percent hate you and 40 percent love you, you are dead meat.

          1. Name me one decent raging egotist who gives two scoops about tearing it all down with him as he goes?

Just like Ttump, this fucker will have to be bought off . . .

            1. Actually, one of his accusers filed a criminal complaint today. If the DA signs off and requests an arrest warrant, he may be picked up and placed in handcuffs next week.

The Fat Lady may not be signing yet, but she is clearing her throat.

              1. Democratic lt gov Kathy Hochul would step in if His Gropeship resigns or is impeached.  She seems a fine person who deserves a shot in her own right.  If he won't resign within two weeks, impeach, convict and move on.

                1. I like her. She has an interesting evolution. She was county clerk in in western NY, ran in a special election for a Republican-leaning House seat as a moderate Democrat and won.

She lost re-election but Cuomo picked her at Lt. Gov. in 2014. She has evolved from Center to Center-Left which she will obviously need to be if she runs next year for Governor.

She’s a lot like Kirstin Gillibrand.

  2. A division of the Colorado Court of Appeals affirmed Steven Curtis’ conviction for voting twice in the 2016 election. For those of you who may not recall, Mr. Curtis was once the chair of the Colorado Republican Party.

As Moderatus might say:  “You see, there is actual voter fraud occurring in Colorado no less!” Even if the GOP must commit it themselves.

OTOH, one might say that he got caught; the system works.

His use of a variation on the Twinkie defense and his representation by court-appointed counsel really says a great deal about the Party of Personal Responsibility.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Colorado State Public Defender’s Office – which has a bunch of excellent appellate lawyers – funded by your tax dollars and mine.

    1. The defense did what it could with what it had.  The involuntary intoxication defense is a good one, just didn't prevail here.  As for the PDs, they do great work and are underpaid.
