TUESDAY POLS UPDATE: Release after the jump.
“Our current representative is a politician who has spent much of his career in Washington D.C. as an attorney and congressman. Somewhere along the line, he lost his way. Supporting a plan that would end Medicare as we know it was part of a prevailing wind blowing in the wrong direction. Colorado needs a compass in congress, not a weather vane.”

Not that this is any surprise…
He plans to announce officially tomorrow but put this announcement up a few minutes ago on Twitter….This ought to make Frank McNulty very happy since he insisted that the Dems were drawing a map for CD4 for Shaffer, who (very wisely, I think) refused to be drawn into a public fight with McNulty.
BRANDON SHAFFER ANNOUNCES BID TO UNSEAT CORY GARDNER
Says the incumbent congressman has
“Gone to Washington D.C. and lost his way.”LONGMONT, CO – Yesterday evening at a small 4th of July barbeque with friends and family, Brandon Shaffer announced his intention to run for Congress in a bid to unseat Congressman Cory Gardner in November of 2012.
Shaffer, a third generation Coloradan and former Naval Officer, made his case to replace Cory Gardner. Gardner is an ardent supporter of the controversial Republican GOP budget plan-the “Ryan Plan”.
“I’m tired of watching the Washington D.C. game that’s focused on chalking up political points instead of solving problems. We do things differently here in the West. We take an independent approach that is rooted in common sense. I call it ‘Colorado Solutions’ and I want to bring that tradition to the United States Congress.”
This morning Shaffer will file the appropriate paperwork with Federal Election Commission to become a candidate. Shaffer has spent the last several weeks talking to people in northern and eastern Colorado while making his decision with the input of friends and family.
“Staying true to ‘Colorado Solutions’ means having a strong compass that points to what’s good for the people of Colorado. As a former Naval Officer who safely navigated a destroyer to the Persian Gulf, I know the value of a strong sense of direction.”

Brandon is a third generation Coloradan and former Naval officer who served two deployments to the Persian Gulf. He has served in the State Senate since 2005 and was chosen by his peers to serve as one of the youngest Senate Presidents in Colorado history.
