  1. I watch very little cable news these days but tuned in last night. It appears the Trump Coup™️ is as shitty a brand as the rest of his failed ventures.

    1. Do yourself a favor and don't pay too close attention to adverts on cable, especially right-wing cable.  It's horrifying to contemplate what the advertisers consider for an appeal to their target market.  It's like the book sale stand at a gun show, but for shut-ins.

  2. CPols says Tim Foster, former State Rep and President of CMU, is actively pursuing a challenge to Lauren Boebert in the 3rd CD.  What is your source?

    1. The only possible “source'' is wishful thinking by rational Republicans who are in hiding to try to make it through the trumpite storm. I can't see it. Foster has made it clear over the years that he has no interest, none, nada in going to Washington in any capacity. A gubernatorial race, perhaps, but he's far too rational to survive a primary in today's GOP.

  3. There is a lot of disinformation being pushed in the hinterlands by the right on the origins of Initiative 16.  No, this isn’t a ‘Democrat’ effort to kill an industry.  In fact, Governor Polis has come out publicly against the initiative and it’s not supported by the state party.  It is a citizens ballot initiative promoted by two Front Range activists.

If we should be up in arms about anything it should be about how easy it is to get initiatives like this on the ballot. By and far Colorado ranchers and farmers are worthy stewards of their animals.  Can we do better?  Sure we can – and the marketplace is becoming a great arbiter for choice.

    Defeat Initiative 16

    1. It will be interesting to watch how many Front Range urban progressives come out against 16.

16 would criminalize spaying and neutering….. Including household pets?

      1. Right?!?  The text of the initiative reads like something that manifested as a vision to someone during an Ayahuasca experience.

      2. If I understand it correctly, it would also prohibit euthanasia prior to at least a quarter of the "natural" life span of an animal.  That will make for some scenarios, deciding what the "natural" life span for various pets might be and forcing all shelters to become "no kill" until the animals reach that limit.

    2. MB: Yes, it's far too easy to get things on the statewide ballot. Remember that Western Slope legislators, led by the late Dave Wattenburg, did get passed a provision to require signatures from each of the state Senate's 35 districts. The idea was to make initiative backers to get signatures from counties other than the metro liberal counties on the Front Range. For reasons still not clear to me, it was struck down in the courts.

We need something like that again that would pass judicial muster.

  4. House passed updated bill awarding Gold Medal to Capitol Police & DC Metropolitan Police, 406-21. The 21 Republicans opposed to honoring 1/6 bravery??

Looking forward to hearing the reason for THIS vote.

    1. In any other year, I might hail this sisterly meeting as a prelude to real bipartisanship and and pragmatic policymaking, since femae legislators tend to collaborate better than their male colleagues.
However, Joni Ernst, Marsha Blackburn, and most other female Republican senators are generally members of the STrumpettes.  Susan Collins talks a reasonable game, but always votes the Trump way in the end. Only Lisa Murkowski sometimes has the courage to break with the crowd.

      1. An extension to your point ala Mr. v. (ex) Mrs. Bezos: she’s concerned about concentration of wealth by the few and giving billions away to educational and non-profit entities supporting diversity.

Him? He claims “the only Earthly way to spend his money is to expend it on space travel.”

I think the problem here is clear.

        1. Jeff Bezos is an odd person, undoubtedly.  But his $10 billion gift in 2020 established the Bezos Earth Fund.

After an initial round of criticism for being opaque, the Earth Fund announced its initial plans.  In the next decade, it is going to drop about $1 billion a year into advancing efforts to deal with climate change, making it by FAR the largest single philanthropic effort and on a par with the announced investment strategies of a major corporation such as Royal Dutch Shell.

    1. “All foreign policy is a logical extension of personal relationships. It’s the way human nature functions.”  President Joe Biden, today. Wise words, and nice job giving it right back to Kaitlan Collins in that clip…
