Thanks Kwtree. You succeeded in finding another woman worth quoting!
At this point the lack of quotes from women for the open threads has to be intentional. I wonder when (or if ever), the open thread has ever had a female author.
The pettiness of avoiding quotes from women is kind of embarrassing.
It’s not difficult. Takes maybe one more minute than finding a quote on the same topic by a male ( or a person of color, or a particular activist or writer).
Pols has a de-facto quote quota – 90% of its daily quotes are from dead white males, and it’s been that way since I started posting on here in 2013. Though they did have an all-Rush-Limbaugh period, which was pushed back on until they found other white guys to quote.
I don’t think that it’s deliberate mysogyny or white supremacy – more like benign neglect and contrarianism. But a quota is a quota, whether it’s intentional or not, and I will push for a more balanced and realistic WG / POC and female mix.
I just want to adjust the quota percentages from the present tokenism: two to-four out of 26 possible monthly daily open thread quotes – towards a more equitable 50-50 split between dead or alive white guys and every other person in the world who has something worthwhile to say about politics, life, or ???
When almost all the daily quotes are from dead white males, it implies that the only political wisdom worth listening to comes from that demographic.
It may be small shit, and (I’d like to think that) most of my political work and writing is more consequential, but it’s the greeting at Pols’ front door, and small shit makes the big world go around.
Everybody needs a cause.

Today is Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Day
It is also National Spinach Day….
But, we will have to wait until January 17 for Popeye Day.
Representative Cannon, you do not get to attend and we do get to prevent you from entering and then arrest you because
a. We are old, fat, white condescending or privileged. Or all of the above.
b. We are not using fire hoses and German shepherds.
c. you did not bring bear spray or zip ties- clearly
indicating your lack of seriousness.
Rep Cannon is my new hero.

. . . You know, for the protection of those southern slaveholder militias valiantly defending their homeland (from those millions of slaves they just coincidentally happened to have kidnapped and held in the worst kinds of unspeakably brutal generational bondage down there).
Oh, and there’s also this little bit of wacked-out gun-nutter-lobby magic semantics to enjoy:
